I have the damaged radiator from Marc's GMC. Since only the end caps are needed for a re-core, I don't want to store the entire thing. How do you remove just the end caps and toss the highly damaged core? Will this require a professional shop to do the deed? Or, can you just cut most of the core off with a cut-off saw, about 2 inches from the cap. The object is not to rebuild this radiator now, but to be able to supply the caps to someone who has a desperate need.

Tom, no GMC = no radiator

Tom,

If that is your intention, then a sawzall is a fast answer. I have gotten end tanks off with just a torch, but it is neither easy nor entertaining. With the price of scrap copper what it is, I would get a 6" fine blade and cut through the tubes as close to the tube sheet (the part that the tube are stuffed into) as I dared,

Tom,

Your generosity doesn't quit!

Having said that what's the cost for a re-core compared to the cost of the
aluminum radiator?

I'm sure it got discussed here before but I can't remember what prices were
quoted.

I do vaguely remember someone mentioning that the core needed to be 14 tubes
per inch; have I got that much right?

Recor is good, depending on what core you get 500-650.
The new aluminum unit cools much better than the standard and goes for $798.
We have sold many of them with great results.

The thing that bothers me about getting rid of the core is if someone takes only the ends in for a re-core the radiator shop might not know the correct core to place them on.

A re-core might be a little cheaper but in my case I bought a new aluminum one and never looked back. Thanks to a lot of help from other GMCers at the Delaware GMCMI rally I got it installed.

I suggest keeping it all or scraping it all. I have Dan Gregg's old one stored in my hanger. Blaine has my old one stored in his Florida room.

When I was getting ready to get mine from that infamous place in OKC, I had some weeping near the right top area of the fan signature probably because of the flashover I had..
Shop guy said he knew of a place to 'fix' it, prob around $35..
I said ok, but later he said the rad shop said they couldnt fix it,but they could recore it for around $1100....
I told him to call GeneD and get theAlum one and 'upyurs'...
Still waiting to try it out, if only I could find new 16" STEEL wheels.
