Frank Jenkins in Florida has an entire dash available that includes the instrument pod (at least it looks like it in his photos on the website), but I don't think anyone has done a replacement. I can't really imagine that one couldn't be replicated in fiberglass (or a combination of a metal instrument panel with a fiberglass surround that could be covered as one likes. If the dash fascia is available with CNC machined cutouts for the instruments, it should not be all that big a job to modify the program to allow an entire dash plate to be created. Then the outer ring could be recreated in fiberglass quite easily I would think.
This may give Mike Bozardt (or any other supplier) another project to work on!

Is anyone making or intending to make the plastic support cage? Hopefully not out of plastic! They are all crispy critters by now. If I try to fix mine, it will be a patch next to a patch.

Kelvin, I have been thinking about the fragile dash for a long time. I have
considerable experience making model ariplanes. Some of them use molded or
injection molded foam wing cores that are overlaid with carbon fibre epoxy
cloth. When that is cured it is amazingly strong and impact resistant. The
"horse collar" could easily be made from that pink closed cell foam
available from the Depot's glued together for thickness and cut with a hot
wire. Makes a very smooth cut. Final sanded to pleasant shape and finally
overlaid with carbon fiber cloth saturated with epoxy resin. Could finally
be covered with nauga skins or leather of your choice. Same technique for
the dash pad. The underlying metal stuff you are already familiar with.
Those plastic ribs that extend from the top of the sub dash to the
windshield could easily be duplicated in small diameter tubing. A defroster
plenum could be fabricated from fibreglas or aluminum and the ribs could
attatch to that. There is some material that custom rod interior shops use
for trunk liner that can be heated and bent to any shape and should suffice
for the removable part of the top dash. Materials are cheap except for the
carbon fibre cloth and epoxy resin. Our labor ain't worth squat when we are
paying ourselves, probably measured in BPH. (That is beer's per hour) <Grin>

Call me a heretic, but I think y'all are wasting your time fooling with 35
year old plastic. It's lost most of its plasticizers (the stuff that keeps
it soft, pliable, and structurally sound) and will continue to lose more of
it. All the bandaids in the world won't correct that significantly. The
only hope for a truly satisfactory solution is complete replacement.
It's not nearly as difficult as one thinks at first blush: Once the old
stuff is out of the way, it's surprisingly easy to replace the original
design with one of your own. It can be as simple or complex as you're
willing and able to make it. My design probably wouldn't suit many other
people, but SHE and I are VERY satisfied with it, despite a few shortcomings
we've discovered. It's an ENORMOUS improvement over the decrepit original
in appearance and functionality, in our opinions. And it was neither
difficult, expensive, nor very time consuming to design and build.
Don't leave complete custom replacement out of the options you consider.

My work takes me to a custom shop in Elkhart IN.tomorrow and they do custom plastic parts for upfitting transport coaches etc. I'll see if this is something they could tackle. On the old one, if you patch it, it breaks in a new spot until it is all a patch. Plastic has give up all it's VOCs it has to give and there aint no more.
