In getting my coach ready for my trip next week I tested the wipers. I've had this coach three years but never used the wipers after the day I bought it and checked to see that they work, and they do. The problem is that the arms only come straight up then sweep back the other way. They need to sweep further to the left before returning. I've looked in my manual but don't find any adjustment. I know there are electric upgrades but that will have to wait. Is there anything I can do to get a broader wiper sweep from the stock hydraulic system? I do have the new upgraded arms and new blades but that should not matter. Anyone have experience with this?

Lance, until you get them fixed, get Rainx and put on for the trip. The GMC windshiels are pe3rfect shape for Rainx to work. I never leave on a trip without smearing the windshield 2-3 times.

Good tip. I have some in the car. I'll move that to the Pickle tomorrow.

It might be adjusted correctly. You can't have the blades wrap around
the left side of the driver's windshield. Too much strain on the motor
and mechanisms.

At least that's what we've been told to believe. :^)

You can not go very far left or the wiper will get stuck around the corner of he windshield.

As much as Ken H. hates it Rain-x will help the windshield a lot. He makes a good electric replacement but I have found I seldom use the wipers so I have not done his upgrade yet. It is on the list for a someday improvement.

No, I haven't explained it well enough. The wipers do not sweep far enough, not close to it. The left wiper is far from going around the curve. The wiper arm sweep is less than 90 degrees. My 75 Palm beach had a wider sweep. Why not this one?

At road speed, with a wet windshield, the wipers will travel farther than they do when sitting still, on dry glass.

Others have mentioned the issues with going around the corner of the windshield and the use of Rain-X.

I think if the overall position is wrong you can remove them and adjust them a spline one way or another. I set mine to park better and be out of the way when parked. That's about 1.5" above the rubber gasket. That puts the left one just slightly going around the corner but not enough to bind. IF there is not enough stroke overall, then something is wrong with the hydrolic system I would think. Might be best to compare to another good one when you have one to look at.

I want to get Ken's wipers too Mr. Burton. Just can't get them to the top of my list while the rainx is working for me and the old vacuum wipers work so well on our coach. My good friend Chuck Boyd gave me a Lumina motor so I just need to work out some kind of lay away plan with Ken H. one of these days, or with Jim K. He sells them too. But, then I would be praying for rain on every trip just so I could use them. What a dilema.

I meant hydraulic wipers. I am used to thinking about my old 57 Chevy with vacuum wipers. I knew better.

I removed the wiper arms, rotated them clockwise about 15 degrees, and reinstalled them. if still not enough, do it again.

We have been selling the Henderso wiper kit with great results.
They have a wider sweep angle and have speed control like the newer units.
We have new motors for sale with the kit.
See it on our web site.
