Can anyone suggest places or activities in that part of the world that might be appealing to a family.
We have a two-year old.
With the new dates the Bean Station Rally lines up with spring break.
The week will be, in part, a celebration of our 10th Anniversary so an extended period at GMC work Rally may lack something in romance.
But I would like to find myself in the area just to say hi to a few people I've come to appreciate on this forum.
I'd also like to meet Dan and Rob if they make it.

I gave up on getting my wife to go to Bean Station. Taking her and my 18 month old daughter just wasn't going to fly. So instead I'm asking my Dad to come. He'll fit in just fine with the rest of these guys! Retired and living the good life...
Bean Station is in NE TN, so you are fairly close to Knoxville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, etc. If you can't find family fun things to do in Pigeon Forge, there just isn't any help for you...

Don't rule out Cumberland Gap. It's closer than the rest you have on the
list.
You couldn't get me to Gatlinburg unless I went in from the south of
Knoxville through Maryville and Townsend. That, to me, is the best way into
Great Smoky Mountains NP. Even then I'd turn right and go to Cade's Cove. Of
course, if you'd like to shop at all the pricey "outlets" then you might
enjoy the ten miles of traffic signals around Sevierville.
Getting Pigeon Forge from Townsend is a lot easier, too. In other words,
Townsend has resisted the urge to over commercialize and has zoned itself
that way.
The biggest question is have you joined Dixielanders?

Hi Dave,
Â
If I may share a neophytes experience, Bean Station's main attraction, for me at least, is that it a work, eat and enjoy the 'old timers' rally more than a 'get out and go see' rally. This does not preclude the fact that there is much to see within a hundred mile radius as already mentioned, not to mention many beautiful lakes near by. Come to Bean Station and get your hands dirty, and enjoy your GMC family.
Â
My wife and I could watch your kids for you while you help others with their coaches. Watching kids, taking out the trash and helping with dishes and perhaps taking a few pictures is about all I have to offer at this stage of the game. Come and enjoy what is. You will be glad you did.

Dave,
Tell your wife that this rally is so good there's a guy coming all the way
from Sydney, Australia to attend! ;-)
Or there's a snarky Aussie bastard (Aussie term of endearment) that busts
your chops about owning a Flatnose and you want to make his nose match! ;-)
