Just got an email from FMCA about their upcoming area rally at Goshen, Indiana in May. This is at the same fairgrounds where we are having the GMCMI rally this fall. See more info at: http://goo.gl/GL3hK

Are any GMC people planning to attend this rally? Their email says: "Come as a group/chapter and we'll park you together at the Elkhart County Fairgrounds. You can have a rally within the rally!"

This is about 25 miles from my home, so I am thinking about attending this. My only previous time at any FMCA rally was back in 1973 when I was part of a vendor service group. At that time I was not very impressed with the organization, as it appeared to be mostly "big box" coaches for people with lotsabucks. I have never put out my FMCA "goose egg" even though I am a member.

Maybe times have changed (?)

Erv,

I have mentioned a few times -- we attended and FMCA rally a couple of years ago -- it was 2 miles from our house. We were the only GMC there -- but met several former owners and we-wish-we-could-have-afforded-one-back-then.. All new to me but I enjoyed the vendor presentations and show booths.

Tom came over to visit (at the time hea had no coach) and we toured the new coaches on display.

Quite a few years back, our daughter and family
were very close friends with a family in TUlsa
that were FMCA folks. They, and we, were invited
to join them at an FMCA gathering at a very nice
state park in southeastern Oklahoma. Daughter's
family rented a pop-up camper and we used our
1966 Apache tent camper (still have it).

The FMCA folks totally ignored us, basically
retreated to their coaches, smoked cigarettes
incessantly while playing cards and totally
ignored the beautiful park and its attractions.
The great highlight of the day was late Saturday
afternoon when they gathered to play bingo and
rejoice over winning tacky (our opinion) prizes
whilst doing so.

The difference in attitudes between THESE folks
and the folks that we met a boat shows led to
our decision back around 1992 or so to forget
RVing and go into boating instead. It's not a
decision we have regretted.

I don't expect that the lotsabucks, big SOB coach
folks have greatly changed their attitudes in the
past 20 years or so.

Obviously, there is a totally different attitude
and outlook within THIS group and that's why we
have joined up!

I don't have lotsabucks but was thinking about attending the rally. It's so
close to the salvage places and other things to see and the right time of
year for me since college will be out the week before.

As to comments about big box owners -- people are people wherever you go.
I've found friendly both friendly and snooty types regardless of the size or
cost of their coaches.

Perry will be our first FMCA event. If it's like the Good Sam/Camping
World/Progressive (The Rally) like the one in Louisville last summer I'll
enjoy it. There's a great variety of seminars and you have the option of
staying out of the big, new coaches.

In fact, they had a Prevost with full length slide out at half price. At
$550,000 it was still ten times more than I'd pay for it even if I had won a
big lottery and lost my wits.
