Ok, getting a little frustrated by my side door. I need to do the recurve exercise because if it didn't need it before I smacked the telephone pole, it needs it now (that's a whole story by itself!). After searching the forum for the right technique I found several recommendations for a new striker plate through JimK. It doesn't look any different than the stock one. What's new with this one? Can I just modify my existing plate?

Pete, It is a solid pin. Your original is a two piece and has collapsed or at least is trying to. I argued with the manufacturer that it would not fix my door. I bought the first one he sold 4 years ago. My door now closes with the slightest touch. No need to recurve the door unless you have really messed your's up somehow. Call Jim in the morning and get one on the way.

My experience was a bit less clear. I got the same feedback about
needing a new pin, got one, and it didn't fix the problem, at least not
initially. I'd had my door apart to install sound deadening insulation,
so best guess is that reassembly wasn't aligned right. Struggled with it
for a bit and eventually got it to close easily. However it only lasted
that way for a few weeks, and then started not closing completely
again. Iinspection of the pin showed a burr, presumably from the
door latch hitting it slightly mis-aligned. Used a small file to remove
the burr and again it closed easily. Now after another while it's not
closing again, though there doesn't seem to be a burr raised up, so not
sure where to go from here.

Try lubricating your door latch. Also put a small film of grease on the pin. You can use the Lubriplate white grease that is usually used for car door strikers.

This might make things close easier.
