This was mentioned briefly in the thread about parting out another GMC.
The original Revcon Front end is all Toro. Later models used a custom I-beam assembly but not mine
It's all Toro right out the the five lug hub. Wheel adapters are used to accommodate truck rims.
So the question is, what would it take to put GMC hubs, knuckles, rotors, etc on a stock Toronado?

I think you would also need the beefed up control arms. The lower ball joint has a different taper also.

The 84 is a different animal.
When GM stopped putting a big V8 in the Toronado, Revcon made their own FWD system with custom and 4wd components. It sounds like a nightmare to maintain.
My Revcon is all Toro but I want to convert it GMC if possible.
I don't think the Hubler system is necessary as the coach is much lighter.

Dave,
Since we can use the control arms and knuckles from Toro, with
reinforcements, and knuckle boring for the ball joints, seems to me you
should be able to use the A-arms and everything attached to them from the
GMC.

Dave,
First, I would have to know what you are looking to improve, but I would start by telling you that Dave Lensi is of the belief that the only problem with the almost all Toro front end on the GMC is the front bearing lubrication and he has a fix for that.
So, if I were in your position (which I am not by any stretch), I would get in touch with Dave and ask if he will do his set of mods on your knuckles and hubs.
I would like to have him do mine. Yes the cost is not that different than a Hubbler mod, but I still can't afford either.
Dreaming is free.

The goal is to change the hubs and rotors from Toro five lug to GMC 8-lug.
Maybe that's all I need to change?

The Revcon wheels are pretty rare- 16.5" five lug on eight inch pattern.
So if you get a blow out and mangle a rim you have very limited options.
The rear tires (not duals) are 16.5 x 12.5 - equally scarce.
So, changing the hubs to the much more common 8-lug pattern allows the use of much more common 16" rims and tires.

Dave,
As far as I know to fit a Toronado knuckle on a GMC the only thing you have
to do re-taper the lower ball joint stud hole in the Toronado knuckle.
The hubs are interchangeable.
The problem is you are assuming that the hubs and knuckles on the GMC you
are looking at parting out are serviceable. If they are not serviceable you
will need rebuilt knuckles and hubs.
Disclaimer: I do not know if the prices are current!

If your Revcon or GMC knuckles are serviceable you could buy, beg, borrow,
or steal this tool from Jim K to install the zerk in them.

you cannot use just any 16" rim. this has been discussed at length here.

Sure, but according to http://gmcmotorhome.info/wheels.html there are more than a few choices.
The Revcon wheels are absolute orphans. I think the sole source Revcon Vendor get $400 apiece. No body is making new ones.
