Chris, I picked up an ac led light at the show in Q. It is built by a fella from So. Ca. He had a booth next to us. I can't wait to get home {someday} and try it out. He has very good prices, better than HD and Lowes. After I run it for a while and like it I will publish his website for everyone that might be interested.

I heard a commentary from a UC IRVINE professor yesterday on radio show. He says that, in running some tests, he found more than trace amounts of lead, mercury, arsenic, phosphorous and some other bad things in LED lights. He feels they could lead to problems if many of them wind up in city dumps and leach into the ground water. He also commented about the dangers of mercury in broken fluorescent lamps, if not disposed of properly. I'm not particularly worried about all this, but thought it is interesting.

CREE is a company manufacturing LEDs.
According to the CREE website, there are no detectable heavy metals contained in their LEDs. They are ROHS & Halogen free.
So I would say the comment about toxic material in landfills is inaccurate.

The same LED's in Phillips bulbs are the same LED's that Kelly uses in his lights.

I purchased one of the Phillips bulbs at Home Depot and am using it here in the RV. It really is nice. The price stung but I bought it for the low current draw not because it was economical.

Your link you shared was a great commentary on the Phillips bulbs.

Thanks

Another great source for finished LED lights is IKEA. They have many different styles, and most will work on 12v. The 110ac is converted into 12v by a small inverter on the plug.
If you shop at IKEA, be advised that they operate an "As-Is" part of the store. This is were all customer returns and aged showroom items are marked down and re-sold. I picked up an very nice LED strip, that is normally $50 new, for $10 and I've have done this twice. Nicely packed and easy to mount. I think the strip style that I bought would be great mounted under cabinets, since the LED's are SMD devices and very small. I have operated these directly from the house 12v without any trouble.

So I assume you are cutting off the 120v to 12v transformer
and just wiring it direct,
is that correct?

I see the EPA is concerned about the mercury in the CFLs. You should not use a vacuum cleaner to pick up the remains of a broken bulb since that would get mercury dust blowing around the room, plus it contaminates the cleaner.

Yes, just toss the 110v plug/adapter and wire directly to 12v. Be sure your polarity is correct, otherwise they will not light.
Yes, they are pricey, if you cannot find them in the "AS-IS" portion of the store. With an IKEA within 6 miles of the house, it is one of my "roaming places". Breakfast for a $1.00 is okay also.

What has this got to do with a GMC? I dunno.
