The previous owners of my coach removed the dinette seats and replaced them with hard benches. As we need to use that space as a bed, I would be interested to find out if there is any source of the dinette seat hardware. Or, if anyone is removing theirs, I would be very interested in procuring them.

Thanks!

I've got a dinette with the fold out seats/bed in my parts coach in St. Johns MI. I don't know where you live, Robert; Florida might be closer.

I forgot to ask an rather important question...

When folded flat as a bed, what are the measurements of the sleeping area?

While I have not measured the dinettes, I do have a few things to say about them that you might find helpful.

I have a GMC installed dinette (Flexsteel) from a Palm Beach. (It should be the same size as the dinettes in ALL "post '74" GMC upfitted coaches.) The GM dinette is narrower than the Coachman supplied dinette in my '78 Birch. (And THAT one should be the same width as all Coachman front mounted dinettes.)

The difference between the two: I have slept 2 adults on the Birch dinette, I wouldn't try two adults on the GM one. While narrower, the mechanism looks easier to "work" on the GM one. (I have not installed the GM dinette, so I have not used it.)

The '73 and '74 GM coaches have wood framed dinettes that look to be the same width as the Coachman dinettes. With good foam cushions, they are more comfortable for sleeping than the metal framed dinettes... unless you are tall. "Metal framed" seem better for sitting.

Robert, Your Royale probably has the propane tank under the rear dinette seat. If so, trying to fit anything other than the Royale type dinette would be a pita.

You are absolutely correct. As soon as I read your message, I realized that the tank was right there. Looks like I may just have to rig up some boards to fit over the existing seat bases.

So I suppose with that tank in place such as Bob and I have there are not many options for replacing with recliners or sofas.

I'd like to eliminate the dinette someday and have more of a "living room" space. I guess the tank could be relocated but i can't imagine where.

I have seem pictures of it being moved so it is long ways, next to the wall. The tank just needed a few fittings to be accessible. I have seen pictures of both bucket seats and "J" shaped couches.

Other question... how big a propane tank do you need? Some just removed it for a full electric coach. (Not the best idea if you dry camp.)

The dinette was removed on our Royale and facing sofas installed.

Those sofas look great, however I have a full-size kitchen behind the driver's seat. One sofa like that would be good. We like the rear twins and the side dry bath, but you sacrifice living room area.

I think two swivel or comfortable chairs with a small table for eating would work for us. As much as we beg and plead we have no grandchildren. If we ever have any, removing the dinette removes a sleeping area. I'd hate for Elise to have to sleep in the toad.

I have lots of fish to fry before we go monkeying around with the living room. I need to remove 1/2 of a rear closet so I can stretch out.

Stick,

If you look carefully at these old photos of my interior, you can see behind
the reclining chairs a "tunnel" running down the side of the coach. That
contains the original Coachmen 19.3 gallon LPG tank, turned parallel to the
wall. With the chairs on those platforms, they reclined unimpeded over that
"tunnel".

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=442&cat=3055

With the retracting dining table, that was a more satisfactory arrangement
than the sofa we now have in that area, to me. But with that in the
Birchaven, we had to have double bed in the kitchen which shut down the
kitchen and required crawling to the rear bath after it was deployed. SHE
got enough of that exercise during the 4 month trip to Alaska. Thus the
sofa (twin beds).

To install the sofa I had to replace the tank with a smaller one. Since we
don't have a furnace and SHE never turns on the LPG stove, we require LPG
only for the refrigerator. The little 6 gallon tank will carry that for a
long time -- at least a couple of weeks.
