Why is it that the Honda Odyssey seats are preferred?

Because they are available, new, leather or cloth, priced reasonably and
will fit the 75-78 platform without a lot of work. OR, you could order
seats thru Jim Bounds for $700 a pair (or up).
Since you have a 73 coach, you will either have to make modifications to
your platform and/or the seat, get the platforms from the 75-78 coach, or
purchase new platforms.
Others have installed other makes of seats. I have installed two sets of
these Honda seats and am pleased with them as compared to the OEM seat (73
& 78 coaches).
