Anyone know what the price of regular is running south of Gilroy? I was paying 3.19 through Bakersfield on the way here. Stopped in Gilroy and put a few gallons in at 3.35. That is what the price is here around the Bay area. 15 cents a gallon is a lot of money when you buy 25 or 30 gallons each stop.
Just checking.

The cheapest here in San Luis Obispo County is about 3.35/gallon for cash.

Checking on the Pilot/ Flying J site here are some numbers:

Salinas 3.29
Bakersfield 3.25
Barstow 3.25

Lake Havasu, AZ 3.05
Ehrenberg, AZ (Blythe, CA) 3.09
Quartzsite, AZ 3.09
Winslow 2.97

For cheaper fuel, your best bet is to get out of the People's Republic ASAP. Also there is a good chance you will get 100% gas outside of the Republic except in the metro Phoenix and metro Tucson areas. Everything sold in the Peoples Republic is required to be 10% ethanol.

HTH

I should have noted that the news yesterday said the highest price for fuel in the 48 states was in the San Francisco area.

Dan,

Here are a couple of ways to keep track of fuel prices when you are traveling:

http://autos.msn.com/everyday/GasStationsBeta.aspx

http://gasprices.mapquest.com/?cid=google&sem=1&ncid=MPQMAP00170000000028&otim=1225492577&spid=28331720

At one time these showed you could save 80 or 90 cents a gallon buying across the river in AZ rather than in Blythe.

You can move the map along your route to see what is up ahead.

We use gasbuddy.com to shop (when there's no Costco!) Sometimes it's a day behind, but it also has handy maps like a color-coded map divided by average gas prices.

http://www.gasbuddy.com/gb_gastemperaturemap.aspx

The also have mobile apps and a simple url for phones: http://gasbuddytogo.com

Thanks everyone. Looks like I am pretty much stuck paying about 3.30 or 35 til I get out of the Golden State. Paid 2.85 in Parker last Monday. Was 3.89 just up the road in Needles. This is rediculous. Looks like it has gone up a dime everywhere in 8 days. Paid 2.99 in Quartzsite.
Watch the tracker tomorrow. We will be rolling that way.

Dan;
You really need to get the 'fuel molecule's' lined up to get great mileage! Here is how you do it.

Wow! Bob -- I hope you got in on the ground floor and bought a lot of
their stock. You sure know a winner when you see one. :)

Bob,

It never ceases to amaze me -- how you're able to find all this great
technical information is beyond me! Must be something to do with the
invigorating climate you live in.

Dan, the reason you are not use to paying so much for fuel is that California leads the nation in fuel taxes, check out the charts at this site and you might be amazed

I love it Bob. Next thing you know we will have a giant discussion about a commie plot: The refineries are using a similar reverse technology to mal-align the molecules in such a way that we all use more gas. Probably part of the ethanol plot... maybe you farmers are putting little magnets on the bottom of each corn plant???

I wish they would do that then all of the magnetic ethanol would stick to the side of the tank and I could run on real fuel.

Gas is up to $3.10 in Quartsite it is about .10 cheaper in Parker. I'm going to cross back over the river to Arizona to fill up at flying J when I leave in about a week or so. It's better then $3.50 here in Blythe.

Dan, It's high everywhere. Cheapest in Houston where the refineries are it's $2.95 and over $3 most places around here. I don't know whose fault it is now. In the past it was the President's fault.
