Guys,
I just got a call from a GMCer who is rebuilding his lower control arms.
He said he followed my notes on the GMCWS tech page. Under rebuilding your
front suspension, pg 2, it says to tighten the 3/4 top nut on the ball
joints to 120 ft lbs of torque. That should read 20 ft lbs of
torque........MY BAD! I don't know how the "1" got in there and stayed in
there so long.
Billy, I can't change it from here so I'm counting on you to do it.
Again, I am very sorry to be putting out bum info like that. I'm going to
punish my left hand now.

Dang it. And, you are the reason I had Jim install the reaction arm. I hope you don't change your mind on that. I put all faith in your words. You said when you drove the coach with reaction arm it was the best mod for a GMC you had ever witnessed.
We will see very soon now. Just checked my GMC tracker and it has been backed out of the frontend shop. We are in Vacaville today.
Dan,
hoping anyone that twisted a balljoint off sends Steve the bill Laughing

As we where saying in a different thread, it is up to the user to double check the information regardless of source. (But especially info from the Internet.) The poster could have no intention of mis-leading (an can even be an expert) but could make a mistake... like a typo.

If you notice a typo or other error in anything the GMC people put out... ask about it. GMC'ers will not be offended.

Steve, If you happened to be looking at the X-7725 supplement manual for
ball joint torques specs you would find that they got the top and bottom
specs reversed. Replacing a brand new ball joint from over torquing isn't
cheap. Ask me how I know.

Moral of the story, don't always believe what you read! Even the GMC
manuals can have incorrect info in rare instances.

I had forgotten this, thanks Gary

also Joe pointed out this weekend, at the NORCAL , that the manuals show two
different heights for the front of the GMC frame height.

I will go look for all of these, if someone has the links let me know

I think I have every manual made for the GMC but I have trouble reading. I just call Jim K or Rob Mueller when I need something. I should unload the coach of the manuals. Probably 20 pounds. We did get rid of several pounds when we traded in our bearing puller to Jim on this new frontend.

No backing down from what I said about the Reaction Arm Steve. My old
fingers may miss a key on the board once in a while, or a string on the
guitar, but that Reaction Arm is a whole different ballgame.
If I still had a GMC, I would have the Reaction Arm setup.

Vacaville. Did you get a ticket at Hilltop? I did about 15 years ago. I was
set up. At least, that's my story.

Are there still nuts in Vacaville?

Ever been to Sacramento? Since you're halfway there you should go on. Great
train museum there. Phat City is a great restaurant, too.

Just stay away from Sausalito and The Spinnaker.

Something interesting happened to us about a month ago traveling through Oklahoma City. We were going through at rush hour. Suddenly all traffic...going at 65mph...just suddenly stopped. My first reaction was that I wasn't going to make it. I have drum brakes and stock airbag system. Hit the brakes hard, then the Brake Buddy in the towd came in. Hauled me down with room to spare and no sliding of the rear bogie tires. It acted as I thought it might. The towd pulling hard on the rear of the coach kept the rear down, putting more weight on it so that the rear bogie tires didn't skid and actually did the braking that it was suppose to. Gave me six tires and four on the towd. I know for sure now that the coach will stop better towing than without.

I still want the reaction arm and disc brakes.

Good thing someone caught it. I am sure that would strip the threads from the top of the ball joint.

Yea Byron. I got a picture of me in front of Charlie Manson's house today.
Larry, my toad brake did same thing and flatspotted my brand new tires last Tuesday. I am not one bit happy about that either.
Dan,
