Well the National WeatherGuessing Service just changed their computer model. Now the weather guessers are forecasting 31" of snow in some areas of Chicago. For my area SE of Chicago the weather guessers are saying 23.5". Based on the past performance of the NWS around here, I'm thinking tomorrow would be a good day to go flying because probably nothing will happen. Then the NWS will say the storm "missed us".

Nah,
I was just stoking the fire. It is pretty cold here and it sputtered a
little snow yesterday. The snow made it down to the 5,000 ft level so the
mtns are beautiful. 39 degrees this am.

Wow

That 'lawn mower set-up' looks like it cost
more than my coach!
But out here on the left coast we don't know much
about snow removal.

Weatherman says it will be 68 and sunny for our
work rally on Sat.

Wish you were here!

PS Maybe its the weather which causes our real estate
to be sky high

Well Ken, I already have snow accumulating, and the worst is supposed to happen overnight.

If you only end up with a piddly couple inches, I'd be happy to share the mountain I am expecting tonight.

I remember Jane Byrne when she pummeled the Mayor of Chicago because the snow removal failed. One enterprising person offered a truck that was supposed to be able to collect the snow, put it into a pot and evaporate it to the atmosphere..... The idea sounded good but I never figured how he could make that change so fast that it would not slow them down. He was estimating he could make them for $100,000 or something like that. For what he says it can do, that number seems low as well.

Mean while, my Greyhounds are racing around in what accumulation I have so far, about 3 inches.... they don't see a lot of snow in the year so they like to play in it. Its' fun watching these big hounds, running and jumping and playing around.

Keep warm folks, it will be an interesting night.

Well I drove the 4X4 into work today and brought along an overnight bag. I'll be checking into the nearby hotel so that the night shift operators will be sure to have relief on Wed AM. Will probably be staying overnight on Wed also. Gotta keep the lights on. Looking outside the weather prediction is on target. The storm warning ends at 1500 today to be replaced by the blizzard warning.

Well, it's been really nasty in Oklahoma. I-44 turnpikes
are mostly closed between Oklahoma City and Joplin, MO.
Somewhere around 15" of snow in Tulsa to the northeast.
Massive traffic jams, etc with most businesses & gummint
services closed in Oklahoma City.

I imagine it is even worse in Tulsa and east from there.

AND, it IS headed toward the northeast!

Is that like the Dilbert joke where "due to weather all non-essential personnel are released" and then they take down the names of those who left to use for the next layoffs.

I've been looking out the window and sitting by the outdoor pool but no snow yet. Here in Venice, Fl the air temp. is 80*F and sunny skys. The water in the Gulf sure looks inviting. Cool Cool

We have about a quarter inch of ice that has accumulated overnight and this morning in central Illinois. About two hours ago it started snowing hard and the wind is howling out of the NW. Looks like this one isn't going to miss us....

G'day,

Since this has turned into the Weather Channel I'll add a bit of
international flavor to it.

Last night was the hottest night recorded in Sydney in 13 years. The
temperatures didn't start dropping until 5:00 AM.

It was 92°F in the Eastern suburbs (3 miles to the ocean) at the Mueller
terrace house (townhouse) which does not have central heat or air (Victorian
coal fire places and ceiling fans) the fans were on MAX all night! It got to
108°F out in the Western suburbs!

Normally Stumpy & Shadow (Hong Kong alley cats) only sleep with us during
the winter to keep warm. They figger'd out that it was cooler under the
ceiling fan and joined us!

This heat wave is supposed to stay with us for the rest of the week which is
not good as it provides a fertile environment for bush fires!

Speaking of Big Storms check this out!

http://www.abc.net.au/news/weather/

That big white patch in the upper right hand corner of the picture is a
cyclone (hurricane) heading for Queensland! They can't catch a break up
there, first the worst flooding in 100 years now this!

Rob M.

If there is one good thing about all the snow
here in Oklahoma, it's that our drought has
gotten a bit of relief. Hopefully our problem
with wild fires will be reduced for awhile!

North of Chicago by the state line and the Lake
Gusting winds with occasional snow ( so far )
drifting snow is building
and the night is young
blizzard warning from 3p Tue to 3p Wed Shocked

Be ok if the lights stay on, but not a good bet

======

Well good day, the morning after the storm

I am on an island of snow, I have 4 foot of snow around thehouse, some places up to the roof with blowing snow. My back yard has the matterhorn in front of my garage and now my garage and the neighbors is connected by snow up to the roof.

to keep this GMC, the street side of the GMC is under snow as is the rear.

The driveway is under 3 to 4 feet of snow and the apron by the road is piled up to 4-5 feet.....

Why don't some of you guys send some of that Arizona heat up here so I can pour it on the snow.?

I will have a busy day today, you all have a good day...

So far, we have only 3.5" of snow by O'Hare Airport, but the winds are gusting to over 50 mph. Unfortunately, the weather service is calling for the heavy snow to come down late this evening, with major accumulations.

I love getting up early to shovel snow so I can get to my office to shovel more snow. That way, I can sit around all day waiting for some clients that haven't cancelled their appointments to show up, before coming home to shovel even more snow once again.

All of a sudden, that southern weather certainly looks more humane than our area!

Flying into Philly from Memphis yesterday took 12 hours. 8 of which were
spent enjoying the beautiful views from Hartsfield International Airport in
Atlanta. Made it to Philly and drove to central NJ where I awoke this
morning to a rental car encapsulated in 1/2" of ice. Local roads are solid
ice.

Rob, send some of that 90 degree weather - *FAST! *

Actually, I would settle for Jim's idea - winterize in FL.

Well, the "Big Storm" ended here about 3PM. I got on the tractor and plowed out 5 houses including my 400 foot driveway and the neighbor's 400 foot driveway. I now have lots of snow piles 6 to 8 feet high all over the place. The county already had the roads plowed before I started so I went down the road and plowed out all of the mailboxes. That will make Debby our mail lady happy tomorrow.

We were finished and the tractor put away by 7PM. We went out with a ruler and measured the snow in several places in the front yard. It looks like we got 18+ inches of snow.

All of the auto traffic around here seems to be moving just fine. I went to the gas station in town to fill up with diesel for the tractor. Then we stopped at the grocery store and a local sports bar on the way back. Everything is fine here.

The TV says that the Chicago patronage workers are having a heck of a time clearing snow in Chicago. It sounds like nothing has changed since 1979 when every suburb and rural area could clear their snow with no problems but Chicago has a mess. I worked in the center of Chicago at the time and commuted in from rural Indiana daily. There was no problem anywhere until you hit the city limits of Chicago. This went on for weeks. They eventually got a new mayor because of it. The current mayor has already said he would not run again so a snow problem is no big deal to him.

Some things never change.

We just finished plowing out from 19" of snow at O'Hare, and I'm glad it was sunny for most of the day so the temps were up. Now we're going into the deep freeze.

As our lights were flickering quite a lot last night, I wished I didn't have the coach at a storage area. It's nice to know that I have a new generator with plenty of fuel just outside of the house in case the power does go out.
