i suspected the plug cock on my furnace was leaking so i lapped the plug and use this to lub it; same with the cock on the stove. i also use it on my steam engines that have plug cocks for drains and water gauge shutoff valves.

However, each burner knob on the stove is a tapered plug cock. A few
years back I found very slow leaks in them. I used 4000 grit wet/dry
sandpaper to clean them up and used grease that is designed for lab
equipment (dessiciant container glass lids) to lubricate them.

This lube that Fred uses will do the same thing.

This will work well, used it at work. The term we always used for this was "stopcock grease". Avoid using the term "cock lubricant" in an internet search.
