We pulled out of Q this morning at 9 am and rolled into Bakersfield this afternoon before dark. I met Randy and his wife from Springfield, Mo, in their GMC just north of Quartzsite. I assume they were leaving also.
I love flying down those Tehachipi mountains. Like a free carnival ride.

Dan, Yes, we were leaving. We were in Calexico, CA last week. Friday, we came to Yuma to visit a friend and then to Quartzsite. Did a little 4-wheeling with the Jeep, found a cache or two. We were headed out to Yucaipa, CA (near Redlands) to visit Margie's Dad. We will make our way up to George & Ruth Beckman's place in Madera the first of next week.
Nearly 3000 miles this trip so far and having a blast! We will head for home sometime around the 1st of April.

Don't forget the work rally here in Chico CA this weekend.
The Gale Winery tour and tasting is set for 5pm Friday.
I am also providing a catered dinner at the winery for
everyone at 6:30. No cost, but you can buy your wine from
Steve Gale.
Saturday is a 'no-host' buffet dinner at Kwando.
Very affordable and all-you-can-eat.
Gene Fisher is organizing a swap meet as well.
We have room to work on 4 coaches indoors, also have
second warehouse across town if needed.
Also free camping (boondocking) at the winery.
We need a head count so please get back to me by this Wed.
Contact me if you have questions/ideas.

[GMCnet] Ray and Lisa's Paint Scheme [message #113904 is a reply to message #113889] |
Tue, 01 February 2011 20:56 |
|
About three weeks ago Ray Erspamer contacted me to see if I could be of
assistance on developing a paint scheme for their center kitchen Royale. The
issue with that model is that there's four windows on the passenger side and
two on the driver side. In other words, coming up with something that fits
on both sides is difficult, especially when Lisa says "quit thinking
horizontal lines".
Ray and Lisa finally agreed on a paint and color scheme. I¹m not sure who
persuaded who but I do know several colors and options were done before
achieving success. I called it ³Golden Wings². I don¹t know what they¹ll
call it. It's a knock-off of a design on some SIV coaches from Arkansas.
I just posted a low-res JPG image. What they got from me was a high-res
image suitable for large-format color printing. I do the illustrations Adobe
Illustrator.

I'm anxious to see what Larry Bontrager at Topeka Graphics does with it.
This and John Sharpe's coach have designs in common with those l-o-n-g
Spectrum 2000s at SIV.

Gee Byron, that design looks great!
Why, if it was a certain purple and white with a brown war eagle that had
extended talons going below the horizontal strip, I know a circle off
Macklem Dr east of you that would show it off real well during a 50th
Reunion. . .
Adiós. . .

No Ken, Jim did not make it. I just brought Teri with me. They plan to start on this thing in the morning. Both front and rear ends are changing for the ride back to Mo. Will get lots of pictures of the process and post them.

You better check along the sides of the road on your way to Fremont. Jim may be out there in his coach. Did you bring a tow rope and a spare 5 gallons of gas just in case you run into along the way?

thats a handsome paint scheme Byron
I can figure what you went through to come up with it.
The GMC is made for straight horizontal lines, GM used them exclusively.
Now I am no designer. I come up with some nice designs now and then, but it is after drawing many many drawings, making changes here, thinking of a style and trying that drawing..... Before the computer HDD crashed, I had an estimated 200 drawings in different variations and sizes.
I had something similar to the curved horizontal lines top and bottom on one of them, not the same but equally attractive. I did not have the golden wings figure because I am not real good at those types of items.
Nice job, keep up the good work, I have to go shovel more snow from "THE STORM"

Thanks, Larry. There is a trick to respecting the proportions and shape of
the GMC. The little bit of curvature fits in nicely. Also, changing the
angle of the break in the raccoon effect helps. The angle Larry at Topeka
has been with us a long time and has become a "standard" so breaking that
mold a bit took some mental effort to get over.
I don't have 200 drawings but I do have a lot of photos of different
treatments and about 1/4 the number of drawing you have. Of course, I've
messed and deleted about as many.
We dodged the bullet here in Louisville. Something about the Ohio River that
seems to be protecting us.
