We call it prindle here at the GMC plant(Chevys too.).I looked in the manual on how to adjust the pointer for the gearshift indicator and found a procedure that adjusted the shift shaft at the tranny. Then I put the Q. as a post on the forum. Mines been misaligned since I purchased 5-6 yrs. ago. While tearing apart the dash last nite(burrrr, its cold and mines inside,,,about 30-35 degrees, inside) the last step after every thing was disconected was to remove the last big piece. But wait,,,, a little cable attached to a lever and the steering column!!! Its the indicator. And,,,,,it has ajustment!!! Sooooo, if yours is not right, look under the indicator for a small cable leading down to the rotating part of the column(rotates with the gear shift). It has a small screw going through a small bracket the cable attaches to and is in a slot. loosen screw and adjust up or down in the slot. Tighten!!!! The bracket/cable atachment is located on the right side of the rotating part of the column. Now I didn't make an ajustment. I just removed it. But I was hopeing my observation and a post might help some one!,,,,,PL

Paul,

The PRNDSL pointer is something you and I are going to have to work on:
When I built my new dash, I made and installed a position indicator in
which an LED illuminates each of those positions. To switch the LEDs I made
a bracket with multiple reed switches, activated by a magnet attached to the
shift column. It worked poorly, until sloppy construction allowed the
magnet to actually hit the switches. Now I shift by feel.

I need to come up with a new switching arrangement. Dakota Digital has a
suitable device, for $99.95.

http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=60/category_id=636/home_id=-1/mode=prod/prd60.htm

The biggest advantage of that device is that it's mounted at the
transmission so that it more closely tracks the tranmission mode than can an
indicator at the other end of a sloppy linkage.

As usual, I think I can do as well for much less $$ -- and probably can as
long as I keep charging $0.00 per hour. :-(

Any ideas you have will be much appreciated.

Ken, I installed one of the Dakota Digital units in my coach with the little
rectangular aluminum LED readout. Has worked flawlessly for several years
now.

If I wasn't so stingy & didn't have such a big junk box, I'd do the same --
save lots of time & energy. :-)

I may yet.

I adjusted mine best I could but it was still a bit of a guessing game until I installed new pads between the frame and the body. Much better now. That said, I too am considering a digital alternative. So many places to spend money . . .
