The tinted film on my back window has come loose on a corner. I decided to pull it off and start over. I'm using a razor blade window scraper with good success, but it is hard on the shoulder and time consuming. The adhesive smelled like vinegar when I pulled the plastic and it is coming off in a powder form.

Anyone have a better way of removal? I'm saving my rotator cuff for Medicare. Smile

If I remember right, amonia based window cleaners are good.

Stick,

Try peeling back the top inch or so all the way across. Spray the solvent
of your choice in the "gutter" you just created and let it work it's way
down. You can also use a heat gun and play it until you can peel it by
hand. Once it starts to peel just keep moving the heat in the direction you
are going - don't burn your fingers or leave the heat in one spot too long.
Pull at a 30 degree angle towards itself as you remove. The 90 degree pull
tends to break a lot.

Stick, I've been told that ammonia based cleaners are good solvents for the window tinting adhesive. When you get it down pat, I'll be overthere in March so you can do mine. I'm actually sitting waiting for the occupational therapist because of a torn bicept & rotator cuff . No, Medicare is not paying it's on insurance.

Tom - no problem getting the film off. It is the adhesive I'm after.

John - see you in March, but don't look for any manual labor from me.

We took off all of our interior window tinting, it really brightened up the
inside of the coach.

We were able to peel off the film, then we used windex and sharp razor blade
scraper. The windex keeps from scratching the window, needless to say, the
job was a real mess but it went pretty quick and easy.

Sorry Stick,

Has anyone suggested applying paper towels and keeping then wet by
re-spraying every so often?

Stick,
Remove the adhesive residue that is left after the film is removed use a
razor blade and mineral turps (turpentine) and a rag (cloth). Hope the
description given is the same name of the product in USA.

Try baby shampoo. I had pretty good luck with it a few years ago, but
there are probably several different kinds of stickum stuff.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I'm on the right track with the razor blades and windex. I might try a little turpentine.

I must be missing something here

When I was putting tint on the car, the tint company told me to use soapy water and squeegie the film on.

Wouldn't water dilute it back and come off??

Or has the sun baked out some chemestry and make the soap another chemical that is tuff to get off....

Jus wondering

The soapy water acts as a lubricant so you can slide the film around and it stops the film from sticking in the wrong place.

I used Goof Off from Home Depot? Lowes? removed the adhesive from a 4 year old professional install. The film came off with ammonia but the adhesive remained.

Let the Goof Off do the work. Let it sit for 5 or 10 min, wipe it off with a course rag or paper towel and finish with an ammonia based window cleaner (Windex)

You might try vegetable oil on the the adhesive. I know it works very
well on duct tape adhesive.
