I'm having trouble being convinced that starting an engine after, say 2 months,
causes wear that is many times the wear caused by starting after 2 weeks. So,
if you start the engine and run it many times, either the wear when starting is
negative or the wear after a long hibernation is horrendous. I think the only
real advantage of starting or even driving the coach occasionally is that one is
often reminded of the things that need fixing. Easy to forget those unless
reminded. When using any machine continuously the age-related failures are
noticed as they happen. Does a radiator hose age faster when just sitting there
or when running at high temperature? When it is "let sit" the same failures
will be noticed all at once, creating the myth that sitting still causes more
failures that running. IMHO

Having operated equipment for many many years, I have seen the effects (and
paid the bills)of letting them sit idle and I can tell you without hesitation
that mechanical equipment needs to be operated regularly - not sporadically or
mothballed.

The cost to own a GMC will rise dramatically if you choose to let it sit.

Gary,

I agree with you. Double Trouble is a good test case. It sits for six to
eight months a year. I have every intention to keep it until I am no longer
able to drive and God willing that will be at least another 10 years!

We'll see how it fares once I get through checking and repairing all the
systems.
