The Revcon glass is roughly the same size and weight as the GMC. I found one new in the box for a great price in Idaho but I can't get any info on how to get it shipped.

I just need a ball park number to decide if i should pursue the deal.

thanks

Dave, make a cardboard box 4" larger on all dimensions than the windshield.
Put a piece of styro on the bottom of the box, and put the windshield in the
box. Put a black plastic garbage bag on each side of the glass, and
alternately fill them with either great stuff, or foam peanuts. If you use
peanuts you will need quite a few. The great stuff continues to expand after
you spray it into the bag and fills the voids very well. Sticks to
everything, and is a mess to use. I used this method to ship a dash pad,
worked very well.

I'm sorry, i was not clear, the glass is in its original box.

But it's too big for UPS and I have no idea how freight works for somehting like this.

THe freight companies online make it difficult for a consumer to get a simple answer.

I figured someone here would know off the top of their head.

THanks

Dave,

Get the weight and dimensions of the windshield and list it with uShip.
Within 24-48 hours you'll get some bids.

Would it help to try a local automotive glass shop to see who they use? They might have some ballpark shipping costs too.

We handle shipping the windshield by going with a trucking company.
We brace the glass with wood beams and cardboard cushions.
It mustbe received at a place of business that has a loading dock.
I think we charge $580 per side delivered anyplace in the USA.
Glass companies pick them up here for around $440.

The local Glass Warehouse gets $75.00 to package one GMC windshield (one side) and $75.00 to $100.00 to ship it depending on distance. That is why I always go pick them up rather than have them shipped.

I have heard that Greyhound has been used by some to ship fragile items with good results. You and your sender are responsible for drop off and pickup. That is what my Vovlo vintage supplier has suggested in the past. Have not actually used it, yet.

That's how I got my 2 odyssey seats from AZ to OK
not that expensive, but if you want it, you pay it, whatever it is.

Greyhound may be the answer, They want $107. The only problem is they only insure up to $300

Thanks

Dave,

A fellow GMCer shipped a tool box for me with Greyhound and it arrived in
fine shape.

I don't know how tall the windshield box would be but if it's taller than
the baggage compartment they would have to lay it down and "stuff" would get
put on top of it.

When I shipped the Caddy engine and other boxes I insured them for $5000.
Don't remember what that cost though.

You better crate it up really well.
They can deny the damage claim due to inadequate protection.
I have shipped all type of fragile items and faced denial of freight claim
