We filled up in Quartzite before entering California and drove to Riverside. Today I took the towd out and filled it with gas. Noticed the interesting fill nozzle for capturing gas fumes. I remember reading about the difficulty when filling the GMC in California and some kind of adaptor that makes filling a lot easier. Did some searching, but can't find it. What do I need to make filling easier so I can get out of this state?

G'day,
With petrol costing around $5.00 a gallon here and combined with the fact
this island started out as a penal colony I decided I wanted a locking gas
door. ;-)
It was really simple to do. I drilled a hole in the aluminum door and fitted
a lock and then using a Dremel tool to put a slot in the fiberglass for the
latch.
Don't have any pictures, sorry!

Hi Larry, I've found that sticking the gas cap (and moving the magnet latch
to bottom) under the lip of that nozzle works for me.

Rob,
The current price of petrol 91 octane is $1.39.9 a litre which makes it
closer to $6.00 a gallon.
I run my Jaguar on 95 octane which is a further 10c a litre, 98 octane is
dearer again.
With the above prices I think we are still a penal colony with Highway
Robbers (Service stations and ofcourse the government with their high fuel
tax)

hey Doug the gas is around $3.30 here in Blythe but just across the river at the flying J in Erenburg it is $2.89. I don't like gasing up there it is like a zoo. Fifteen or so miles further in Quartsite it is $2.89 at Pilot or Loves.

Peter,
It's "only" $1.20.9 here in Sydney, which is surprising!
Hey, if you want to be a flash b'tard and drive a Jag you have to pay the

This doesn't surprise me one bit, CA has the highest gasoline taxes in the USA, then you still pay federal, local, and sales tax which is almost 10% in CA! if that wern;t bad enough the assnuggets at CARB want to institute European style tax schemes which could make gasoline go as high as $9 a gallon!! The idea is to make people take public transport more! heh it didnt work that way in Europe, so what makes them think it will work here! I never thought I would see fuel over 5 dollars a gallon that wasn't 100 octane race fuel here in the States, to me that was crap I only saw in the EU, but 2 and a half years ago during the huge oil high, some stations around west Los Angeles had premium at 5.39 a gallon! With China and India once again ramping up production, their collective demand for the remaining available petrochemicals, and coupled with the Federal Reserve leaving their Damned printing presses on, is pushing the price of a barrel of oil near triple digit territory once again. Some are predicting if something isn't done to increase US production we could see $200 a barrel in the very near future! Not pleasant stuff indeed.
On a side note, I find that only some filler nozzles in CA are problematic, some nozzles by Husky fit perfectly and are just fine.

FWIW,
If you are traveling W to E, Gas is/was $2.87 just across the river into Arizona. Try to gas up there and top off or fill again in Phoenix. Gas in Phoenix and Tucson was $2.75 then gets more expensive as you go east, averaging $2.95 If you are traveling east to west, gas up or top off in Phoenix or Tucson, and top off before you cross the California border. If you are traveling the Phoenix by-pass...I8 to 85 north, Gas at Gila Bend is $3.08. Cheapest I've seen around the Riverside area is $3.25, and that was CASH or Debit card.

I just paid 2.639 for gas this morning at Costco, in Tucson. The Circle-K a mile up the road was at 2.839. Generally gas prices are high in Gila Bend and, if traveling West on I-10 from Tucson, it is best to stop just East of Casa Grande at one of the truck stops, with one of the lowest prices being (interestingly enough) the Circle-K truck stop at the Toltec Road exit.
There is a "Zip Travel Center" East of Quartzsite that generally has reasonable gas prices too. But anywhere in Arizona, gas is a bargain compared to California.
