Paul,

Thanks for asking.

The flooding is currently occurring in Queensland, the state north of us.
The floods are moving south and will eventually get to New South Wales.
However, we live in Paddington which is in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. It
is halfway between the CBD and Bondi Beach. I think it would take rains of
epic proportions (read 40 days and 40 nights) for this part of Sydney to
flood.

It is devastating to the farmers and ranchers up in Queensland, they've been
suffering the worst drought in 100 years and now they're suffering the worst
floods in 100 years!

They are predicting that the price of veggies and meat will go through the
roof. The last time something like this happened the banana crop was
seriously effected. They proposed bringing in bananas from overseas to get
the prices down but government decided against that to support the
Australian growers; a move that was supported by the people!

Regards,
Rob M.

We've been in Brisbane twice but its still too far from the flooded area.
We flew from there once to Hamilton island and stayed at day dream
island for a week.
Got to dive the barrier reef for a few days.

Manny,
The Great Barrier Reef is truly one of the natural wonders of the world.
The water is so very clear, and years ago when we visited this wonder you
could walk on it but now you are not allowed to and I suspect diving around
it might become prohibited unless with a license, the coral is very fragile.

Sandra and Bob,
We live in Gawler 40km north of Adelaide South Australia. The gateway to the
Barrossa Valley and all you wine lovers (drinkers) would surely know where
that region is.
We are not directly affected by the floods in Queensland but we are at the
end of the Murray River (The major river in Australia) and there has been
lengthy discussions for the past 20+ years of how to fix the flow of water
in this river. The states upstream have been killing the Murray river system
by using too much water for irrigating crops such as cotton.
Home owners are now paying a Government tax known as save the River Murray
and of course what has happened nothing, the money goes to paying the
government fat cats to administer the fund.
The answer is stop the cotton growing we do not have the water resourse to
support such an industry and our fruit growing areas have suffered because
of the over use of water which of course is upstream of the fruit blocks.
Why buy fruit from "made in China".
In the lower state of South Australia the river has been well below level
and starting to salt up in the area of the river mouth opening to the sea.
That being said we are now seeing the river level )because of the QLD
flooding) rise to where if should always be maitained in SA so whilst some
people have suffered we in this state are benefitting from the flooding.
Imagine this we have 23 million people in Australia and have water
restrictions in some states so we barely support that population how would
we support 350 million (USA population) people as you are able to do.
The comparison of where we live from the flooding here in Australia would be
from New York to Little Rock Arkansas so it is quite some distance. we are
SW of Rockhampton QLD the worst effected by the flooding.
Our Government gives $500 million in foreign aid to Indonesia yearly and
the Governments aid to their own people devastated by flood in Queensland
get $300,000
Good to see our AUS$ against US$ is at an all time high so expect more
tourist to your country from Australia

It is hard to visualize a flood as large as the state of Texas. I hope all
of our "Aussie" GMCers are high and dry.
