There is a vehicle with a Toronado drive train for sale on eBay, item # 230568614768 . It is called "Cimbria Kit Car Sterling Olds 455 One Of A Kind"
Kind of a nice cover to keep it out of the rain until you get it installed.

That is one fugly beastie! I saw a TV show about Chip Foose re-booting an old Hot Wheels vehicle called "Deora", a George Barris-style surfer's van/wagon that never existed in 1:1 form. He used a Caddy limo chassis w/fwd NorthStar drive train, but converted it to rear-power, locking the steerable axles (centered, of course).

I always thought that drivetrain had a shot at replacing the GMC coach set because it looked like it would fit, being a transverse engine fwd setup and heavy enough to handle the heavy-armor of the official US Presidential limo. I think JB told me someone had wasted a lot of money on trying, though and forgot about it until now.

Didn't JK transplant a diesel into a coach last year?

Yes, Mark there was a guy in Florida that spent almost 2 years (This
was 5 or 6 years ago) working to get the Northstar drive train to
adapt into the GMC front clip. Couldn't overcome all the issues of
make everything fit and work. As I remember steering clearance was a
real problem. Again it is only money to make something work. Jim
has a test 23 using a SB GM gas motor with a 4.10 final drive that he
is experimenting with to see if a viable option.

Apparently Pete Papas isn't monitoring right now. About 6 years ago,
before he sold his latest GMC and started on the RTS, he bought a
Northstar drive train and a GMC front clip. Did a lot of research,
locating sources for reprogramming, new axle shafts, etc., etc.
Decided that the engine and gearing could be made to work. But the
front frame would have had to be VERY extensively modified --
essentially redesigned and built. I spent a little time with him
pondering the hardware. I couldn't see any hope for a reasonable
installation. He, wisely in my opinion, abandoned the project before
cutting metal.

Northstar engines are sideways. They are not good engines. Most of them need lots of work after 100,000 miles. It is a modular block and they leak. The starter is under the intake manifold.

They are transverse or fore-aft depending on the car. The redo around 2008 made a lot of improvements esp for leaks. You're right about the starter.

The 2005 thru 2009 STS and the SRX thru 2009 uses the fore-aft Northstar--it took them a while didn't it Smile
