Can anyone recommend a campground near the cape?
Shuttle is "suppose" to launch on the 3rd of Feb.
I would like to be nearby when that happens.
Happy New Year everyone!

If you haven't made reservations already your probably not going to
get a camping spot anywhere close. The last few Shuttle launches are
attracting big crowds. Viewing is good from downtown Titusville
across from the old shopping center, be there early.

When we were there, we stayed at the KOA. There is a large parking lot next to the mall where Radio Shack is located.  We parked the GMC there and watched NASA channel on their WIFI until near launch time.  Walked to the other side of the street and toward the cape about 200 yards for a great view.  Could have seen it out the front window. It was a long way off but sounded and looked great.  With binoculars we could see the separation of the solid fuel rockets.  We got there two or three hours early and hung out with folks in another GMC and did some shopping in the Mall.  Think it was by Harrison between Route 1 and Hopkins.  Even the VIP folks were several miles away from the launch.  You do not need to be in Titusville to go there to watch the launch.  Allow time for the traffic after the launch.

Hi Louie,

We went last year around Easter for a shuttle launch too. I didn't plan ahead and by the time I heard of the Manatee campground, it was booked solid. We wound up making resrvations at The Great Outdoors just outside of Titusville. It is a little pricier than a KOA, but very lush and nice inside the park. We woke up at 5am and walked out onto their golf course and were able to view the shuttle launch once it cleared the immediate trees. Although we weren't as close as I would have liked, a pre-dawn launch lights up everything! And just when my wife was commenting how quiet everything was, the sound wave blasted out to us! You could feel the ground vibrate. It was a very unique experience for someone that has never witnessed a launch prior. Hope that helps.

I just checked this out

http://www.nasa.gov/missions/highlights/schedule.html

Are both the Feb 3 launch and the April 1 launch, night launches ?! Am I interpreting this page correctly? Or do they call a 'launch time' when the clock starts or something? is launch time the same as lift-off time?

I'm seriously considering heading down if this is true.

Launch time is when they light the candle.
