Left home last Wednesday the 29th. Ran into almost white-out conditions south of Mpls on I90. Turned south on I35 and proceeded to buck a head wind for the next 900 miles. Yup...that's 900mi!! Gas milage is in the toilet. Most of Wednesday and Thursday was spent traveling in very light rain...mist...and fog. Usually when there is wind, there isn't fog. But the warm moist air out of the south over the snow cover made for a general foggy condition, just enough to wet the road. Many of the portions of I35 were newly paved asphalt. That mixed with the light rain made an awful mess on the coach. When we finally got out of the rain and fog, the coach was almost black from the coating of crap....ON MY NEW PAINT. Stopped at Eisenhower State Park south of Topeka KS the first night. Beautiful park, we were the only ones there. Second night in Elk City, Oklahoma. Nice city park here on a lake. Flat paved sites with electricity...no charge....not even a donation box. Again, we are the only one here. We spent two hours this morning in a Truck Wash scrubbing that black $%it off! You should have seen the towd....couldn't see out of the windows it was so bad. Another half hour on that. Broke an air line to the drivers side bag, and it let the coach down to the ground just before pulling out to go to the truck wash. Took about an hour, but fixed it. Also one mud flap was flopping around in the breeze. Gotta find some bigger screws to refasten that. Yesterday it was 75* here. Cold front came through last night. Very windy noisy night with some rain. Today the temp now is 35* with forecast to go to 17* tonight. We will stay here through tomorrow. Lucy wants to see the Badgers play in the rosebowl and we have good HD reception here. Our next stop will be Catum NM in a small city park. We find a lot of overnight places on "Freecampgrounds.com. Then on to Riverside CA area with a stop at some friends home on the way.
So far the coach is performing flawlessly.

Larry,
If you don't, we will be sore....
I sent directions in a previous email and I don't think you got it
I-40 to I-25 South. Stay on dthat to Hatch, NM. Take 26 to Deming, pick up
I-10 W from there. I-10 to Exit 302. 90 S for about 26 miles, at the E
gate of Ft. Huachuca, go straight on Buffalo Soldier Trail. Stay on that to
Cherokee, turn right. About a mile later, turn right on E. Suma Dr. It
takes a sharp L and becomes S. Wenro Dr. I am the last house on the L.
Loong driveway, pull in there and we will get you hooked up and leveled.
520-803-0220, call when you get close.
take care,
Steve

Dan,
Also sent you an email

I just got back from Michigan today. I picked up a new truck at our Novi plant, loaded up the rest of my crap still in storage and headed west. Things got dicey around Springfield and got worse after that. I-40 was closed East of Albuqerque so I took snow covered secondary roads south to Las Cruces and then West on I-10. The hotels were full from people who got stuck there the day before. Well I made it back but the truck looks 5 years old already!

OK Steve... Will call when we get close.
It'll be good to see you two. Larry >>

Sounds like a great adventure, Larry. We go through Tatum several times each year. Few of us are as verbal as Dan G, but I wish the Net had more reports of fun/successful trips in the GMC.
You have probably seen the White Sands, but if you have time, you might check out the cat walk in the Gila National Wilderness on the way to Sierra Vista. A lot different than the scenery around Tatum.
Check out Carl S' pix from his trip to see Jeff and the Gila Forest.

Larry,
Sounds like you will be coming through Las Cruces on US 70. We've got a place at the airport (I-10 exit 132) where you can plug in for the night. WiFi, water and a place to dump also. Give me a call when you get close.

The only thing bad about White Sands is you can't take a picture of it:>)

Great, I expect to hook up with yall in Quartzsite. May get to run into you along the way back east. My last stop will also be the convention in La.
Enjoy the sites. Southern California is a pretty place to visit.
