We are planning a trip for thurs-sun and where we are going the low temps are going to be 15 or so degrees.
We DO NOT drink the water in our RV tank, we only use it for washing etc. Can we add something to the water so perhaps water in our pipes etc won't freeze?

As long as you keep the insides of the coach above freezing, you shouldn't have any problems with the water system. You'll want to keep any doors with water lines behind them open... to allow the heat to reach the pipes.

Note that it takes "a lot of energy" to heat a coach with "stock insulation" when it gets very cold outside.

I would leave the system winterized and keep water in one or two 5 gallon collapsible jugs. (Found at camping stores everywhere.)

You will need to protect your black (and gray) tank. You could pour a little pink stuff down the drains. I also understand that you can use "salt in a pinch." (Salt water has a lower freezing point.)

Good information from Mike. We are living in our GMC at 3600 feet, in Az. This morning it was 21. We have survived down to 12. My maserator froze up at 12. I dumped the tank tonight just in case it does not warm up so I can dump it later, doubtful.
I am sure you will run your heat all night, we don't, so you should be fine.

We switched thoughts and are heading south to camp instead of north. We thought about it and until I get the battery tray installed with the (2) 6 volts, we're going to a place thats in the 20s at night and we can plug in. The furnace running all night on one battery kinda isn't a pleasant thought. The solar panel won't work we'll since it should be cloudy. Even though I'm not worried at all about LP. We've only ever dry camped so this will be a first! So we changed plans.

Yea, what is wrong here? I may head down to Douglas, Az. and help those ranchers run those big search lights, protecting their property. It should be warmer down there.

I found out last year on my 4-month trip, that if the coach is in one
place and you keep the interior warm, the macerator and water pump
won't freeze, but once you start moving the wind chill will freeze
things up in a hurry. It was in the teens in AL and GA, and when I
would stop at night, the water pump and macerator were froze. There
was no damage once they thawed out in TX..

Good idea. Take along a electric cube heater or two. Might come in handy.

Use that coach!

Well Radio, we have a '73 23' also it is a Glacier and I am pretty sure that the colors don't make much of difference.

The heater is on the right side and it is piped to the back bedroom - Right through the head - next to all the plumbing. - No Worries There.

The original dump valve on the holding tank (you only have the one) is mounted so it would be hard pressed to be damaged by freezing because there is no trapped volume - if it is in the original configuration.

Can't really add enough of anything to a fresh water system that leave the water usable for even simple washing and still prevent freezing.

Word of caution about your water house though...
Don't leave it hooked up when things go cold. It is best to load water and then coil the hose so you don't end up breaking it when you get ready to depart.

We have been out numerous times in the teens and twenties. Be ready to run through a bunch of propane. Our tank is good for about four cold nights, but our heater is oversize.

We run a Wave 6 that sips propane compared to our SF 30. Got it going now. We are snowed in at 3600 feet this morning. Temp is 32.5 so will be cleared off soon.

I turn on my pump and drain all the faucets and toilet until the water runs out. Then I dump in 8 gallons of marine/rv antifreeze and turn on each faucet until it runs pink. I also fill all the traps with it and then I don't worry about how cold it gets.
