Steve,
Of course it works, its even easier on the GMC cause you can open the engine hatch while traveling down the road to check on the the progress of the bird, add some trimmings etc.

Being a good Canuck I'm an avid follower of the teachings of Red Green. I'm partial to doing baked potatoes on the exhaust manifold. It might be hard to keep them in place if I ever have to change to headers though.

We have way too much fun up here in the Great White North.

Steve,
Red Green is one of my all time heros. When he created power windows with a battery powered drill motor I knew that he was the best. We no longer get his show in the Cleveland area. I could watch his reruns all day long.

There used to be a car running around Victoria, BC that would cook things on his engine. There was a sign on the car "Manifold Gourmet".

When working in the green pea harvest and driving a combine, I used to heat cans of soup on the intake manifold. (Unopened, just place next to the carb on the intake manifold.) By lunch time it was ready.

That was a few years ago.

The air cleaner is to close to the motor for it to work on the GMC.

Used to retard the spark on my Model A until the exhaust manifold glowed red
and then lit my Lucky Strikes off of it. Never considered if it did any
damage to the engine. Ah, the times in our lives when we really didn't have
a clue. I forgot to mention that I had an Edmunds dual exhaust manifold w/
two u bends that exited through the side of the hood terminating in angle
cuts. No mufflers, no nuthin. I don't think the police today would react
like they did then. At that time they just laughed & waved. Small town
America, you gotta love it.

Hi ,

Some good friends that I raced mororcycles with in the 70's had a very cool
set-up that worked perfectly .

Basically it was a small roasting pan that mounted with a wire clip goodie
to the passenger side exhaust manifold of his Chev pickup . He would place a
beef roast , can of mushroom soup , some potatos and a handful of garlic
cloves in it as we left LA , headed for the desert ... 2 1/2 hrs away . When
we got about a half hour away from our destination , we'd pull over and he'd
add a bunch of carrots and other veggies to the mix . We'd arrive a the race
site and set-up camp and while most others were having hot dogs , we'd have
the our " small block surprise " .

Besides the shear novelty of it .... it worked really well !!

J.D.

Love it! That was a rare piece with the chandler grove carbs, or stromberg
ones. Most of the ones I remember seeing had the carter or rochester single
throat carbs on them. As an aside to all that, My 2007 PT Dream Cruiser with
the turbo would blow the doors of of those old Ford Flatheads or Stovebolts.
And do it in comfort. But it doesen't sound cool nor look cool like your
shoe box ford with the factory 327 in it. Are you going to get another GMC,
or are you going to play with your hot rods for a while longer?

Jim,
When the right one comes along, I am ready to steal it. Never again will I
pay very much for any GMC that I haven't personally, done all the work on.
BTDT!
Let's see a photo of that Olds Holiday. Love'd 'em. While putting around
down near Naco, AZ last week, I spotted a '50 Olds 2dr next to a '55 Chev
sitting under a tree and it looked like they've been there forever. Gonna
follow up on that one of these days.

Mac,
Yes it is! Bone stock right out of the '64 Vette. Motor & trans. Never
been touched, came out of a wrecked Vette in MPLS 32 years ago and the only
thing on it that has been touched is the air cleaner nut.

I had associated that engine with the
beautiful '51 Ford 2-door sedan in the
previous two pictures. Was I wrong?

I once had a '50 convertible. It sure
wasn't as pristine as your '51 having
suffered the salted roads in western
NY state for seven years by the time I
bought it in 1957. Sold it in '61 for
$75 and was glad to get it.

Quote:

Manifold Destiny is a 1989 cookbook, its updated 1998 edition and a 2008 update on the subject of cooking on the surface of a car engine.

I do not have an engine "surface" that _I_ would eat off of...
