Sorry to hear that Emery even tho it is a small sum of money It hurts to be taken advantage of when all you are trying to do is help someone. When I think of guys like John Evans and Dwayne Simmons sending stuff and saying send me a check when the parts arrive. I get the feeling of what if. Several years back I ordered some parts from a GMC'r in Pennsylvania. I sent him around $250 and he never sent the parts. I know $250 isn't the end of the world but "Harry" really pissed me off. I was so mad I made a complaint to the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office. They paid his business a visit and I prevailed by getting my money back.

I think, after several good faith attempts to collect money and/or parts
owed and never received, one should let the rest of the GMCnet know who
they are so the rest of us GMCers can avoid doing business with.

I know Dick Patterson calls me as he is on the otherside of the border.
We no loger send out things without cretit card or money up front.
I think its fair game when they do not live up to their part and print
their names and have a local person visit them.

Hello!
I am one of the persons who asked for the DVD. He never recieved my
payment, so I am resending another payment in the mail tomorrow. I
figured when he got my money, I would get the DVD. I have sent him an
apology, and I am of enough of a person to speak up here. Thanks to
our wonderful postal service, I am one of the "moochers". I apologize
publically for this error, and the problems caused, in the public here
on the list.

Emery,

I am very sorry to hear that.
From reading the thread I know that you are now down to 2, but that is still way many more than should be.

Personally, I have a rule that nobody ends up "cash out of pocket" when doing me a favor, but that is the waterman's world I came from.

And yes, I was passed a cruise switch over a year ago and I sent the loaner his postage and still intend to return the switch when I get the new cruise fit.

Don't loose faith in an otherwise good group.

I have sent out many spare parts that I had for just the postage over the years. Only once did I ever have a problem and it was only about $15 shipping cost. I got two bad checks and incurred about $20 more in bank charges for the two checks.

Two people have reported back to me that they sent cash to me in an envelope. I appreciate them telling me that. I don't want them to send me anything else.

I hate to say it but some postal workers have a way of knowing that there is cash in envelopes and it has a way of not getting to its destination.

It is not enough money to worry about.

It happens. I got burned on that BBQ deal. Did it for free and lost $125.
Fortunately, I have a good memory for some things.

Emery et al,

There's a real easy way around this problem. Set up a Pay Pal account and
you can send / receive money from around the world!

Make sure that when you ask for funds that you tell the sender to send you
the funds as a GIFT! That way Pay Pal does not deduct their commission.

When I do send cash in the mail I always wrap it in a piece of paper.

I remember reading somewhere that the mail now-a-days is virtually untouched
by human hands as it is all processed by machine.

Ironically, in the midst of this PayPal discussion, I have a spam
email regarding PayPal. NEVER respond to an email from PayPal by
clicking on the email. ALWAYS, go to the site by typing the name in
your browser. None of the problems listed in the email were actually
on my account, of course.

Steve,

After you log in to Pay Pal in click:

"SEND MONEY"

When that page opens up you will see two tabs on the left side of the
screen:

Purchase Personal

Click on "Personal"

Under the tab you will see:

This money is being sent as a:

Gift Living expense
Payment owed Other
Cash Advance ($)

Click on "Gift"

Click on "Continue"

When the next page opens you will see the Total Charge matches the money you
are sending and that's what the recipient receives.

I have done this a number of times to pay fellow GMCers for parts.

I have never tried it with an eBay seller.

Regards,
Rob M.

I have a dispute going on right now with an ebay seller with a 100% rating. I sent money using Paypal and the seller immediately responded "item broke" - I'm refunding the money. Then Paypal sent me a note saying there was insufficient fund in the seller's account and an attempt to collect the funds was by echeck to their bank was rejected by the bank.

We will see if I ever get anything back.

If I send out a single item to a GMCer I usually just pay the postage and say to forget it. In Emery's case involving multiple items he definitely deserves to be paid no matter how small the amount is. It ends up being a significant amount when you total up the multiple shipments.

I occasionally get a call from north of the border from a GMCer trying to collect significant amounts from deadbeats here in the US. One in particular was a GMC vendor. Do not ask for names. I'm not giving out any more details.

This kind of thing just bugs me.

"I remember reading somewhere that the mail now-a-days is virtually untouched
by human hands as it is all processed by machine."

Last time I checked, most mail problems is not with the machines, but
with the humans delivering it on the mail routes. Its nothing but
humans delivering it--even today. This is where I just sent money
without "masking it first" my bad.
