A lot of postings have been about Harbor Freight tools.
A friend recently told me to be sure to NOT to buy these things at Harbor Freight:
1) Parachutes
2) Fire Extinguishers
3) Pacemakers
4) Vaccines
5) Birth control devices
6) Elevators
7) Bullet proof vests
8) Trigger locks
9) Pitons
10) Scuba Gear

A good point. It's fun to see what they have, but I certainly would agree that the merchandise is not of the quality that you would bet your life on.
Perhaps you should add:
Steering components
Brake system components

You buy Harbor Freight tools for the set you take with you to friends' houses to work on their crap, emergency tools, rally tools etc; That way when you forget them, you haven't lost much. Some of their tools are great for one time use, and chances are if its a special tool, once is all you'll need it, and it beats Sears high price.
Now, if i owned a shop.....craftsman and Snap-On are all i would buy.

And I have more then once taken a cheap wrench and bent or cut it to made my
own "specialty tool". I couldn't stand the pain to do that to a real
wrench!
And you're right about lending the cheap ones. As the old saying goes; * "I
make my living with Snap-On tools - PLEASE don't ask to borrow them!"*

I once needed a thiner 3/4 wrench. Should have seen the look on the #1 sons face when I ground it down thinner(craftsman). I asked him what was wrong. Asked him how many 3/4 wrenches he had and he said one. I've lost count,,,,4 or 5. Now ones thiner,,,,,PL

The real drag is when the tool breaks and then you stab or injure yourself. Then you wish it was a SnapOn. Plus spending those high prices on US made stuff keeps Americans working. OK I admit I bought a Central Machinery 220V spin balancer, but I couldn't afford the Coats or SnapOn.

Only helps with metric sizes, but a great sources of thin open end
wrenches is a bike shop. They're call "cone wrenches". When I first
started using them, I didn't think they would hold up to automotive work,
but I haven't broken one yet.
