A suggestion: try tire chains (aka the ones used on snow). We were once trying to drive
a truck up a very steep hill covered in downed dead grass. That stuff is so
slick you can't safely walk on it. Couldn't get the truck up hill despite repeated
attempts and running starts. Out of desperation, we put on some tire chains on
and were able to simply drive right up with no problem.
