The GMC I'm considering purchasing does not have a rooftop storage pod. Internet search doesn't come up with the pod I frequently see on these rigs. Does Camping World have them in the store and not online? How much do they cost? Any other sources?

Thanks,

Pete

I'm on my 4th pod...don't ask why Embarassed

Anyway...the only replacement pods I've been able to find that match the old ones, are old ones. Got all of them by advertising in the "Swap meet" section of this forum. IIRC all under $100 bucks. Most from people who were cleaning up the profile or putting on a new streamlined pod.

I need one as well since mine is super old and cracking bad.
I Craigs Listed them and a few popped up that seemed to be a good price.
You may want to try that as well.

Jim,

I downloaded Yakima's catalog and it appears they don't make the large
square type pods that go on RV's the ones they make go on car roof racks.

Perhaps you might wish to consider one of the
carriers that fit into the receiver of a trailer
hitch. It would be more accessible (no climbing
on the roof) and would not add a bunch of aero
drag to your coach. AND you would not have to
carry it around all the time when the storage
capacity is not needed.

I also looked at the Yakima site, and with the prices of those pods, a rear hitch mounted one doesn't seem like a bad alternative.

The roof ones don't look to be all that large to justify having to climb up on the roof to fill and empty them.

Pete,
I have the large storage pod mounted on my 76 GMC, I plan on removing it
before I have my GMC painted this next summer. I don't know of any cracks
or leaks. It is always dry when I open it. If you come down here to North
County San Diego and help me remove it, it is yours
I don't like walking on the roof myself, and I find that it ia easily
accessible from a collapsible ladder that I bought from Campers World that I
lean against the GMC and gives me easy access. I could sell you that ladder
too.
Are you interested in a 94 Geo 4WD Tracker, tow bar and all? real
reasonable, you could tie the pod to the roof of the GEO if you didn't drive
too fast, or put the top down and put it in the right seat.

Rob, I knew if I gave him a starting place like Yakima that several GMCers

Hey Pete;

You're probably too far away, as I'm just outside the TriCities in
WA, but I have a nice one you could have. A long time ago I traded a
cord of Mulberry wood for it, but I never installed it on the Palm
Beach that I had, and I'm never going to put it on the Stretch.

Actually, the GMC I'm considering is near Portland, so a stop in the Tri-cities is already planned! I hope to head over that way after the holidays to inspect the rig. Maybe we can work out a deal then?
