Plumbing near my house water pump is leaking (on the house side rather than tank side of the pump.)

Unfortunately there is a double bed blocking easy access from above; is there an easier way to gain access other than removing the bed?

Probably a PO modification, and one that makes the water pump access more difficult than the original, which itself was not easy. On my X-PB there was a panel that allowed some access from the front, but to really get at things I had to remove the seat above, then the plywood panel over the tank and water pump. So, probably you will have to just disassemble things by inspection, until you get enough out to get at it.

You may consider replacing the pump altogether with a new one if the access is very difficult, and you don't want to do it again (and again). It will be to your advantage to replace all the input and output lines, considering the difficult access you have. While you are in there look for a small white plastic check valve in the output line from the pump. If it is still there, remove it, as the check valve in the pump is all you need. The second check valve causes priming issues and serves no use with the modern pumps we have now.

Clue :
http://www.palmbeachgmc.com/water_system.html

I added a line on the suction side of the pump with a plastic Home depot valve so I can suck winterizing fluid direct from the jug to freeze-proof the lines. Be sure to isolate the mounts so vibration does not become a noise issue. Some people have complained about the noise under the bed at night if someone (ahem- dear) uses water, but that would require a big move of the pump.
I also eliminated the water fill spout in the right storage compartment. I fill from the city water connection on the right side of the coach.

There is a metal panel under the van that slopes from the wood floor under the freshwater tank upwards towards the rear bumper.

Can the water pump, valves, etc be reasonably accessed by cutting this panel?

Probably could be accessed this way but I would not recommend it.
On my coach the water pump is mounted on that slopping surface.
You would be opening a hole that generator exhaust fumes could
get through and kill you. What is your problem that you can't get
to them from the top side? Which interior design do you have?
Side bath with Gouchos? Permanent rear bed?

Charles....

Permanent rear bed. Access is restricted by a 3/4" mattress board and an 8" thick mattress atop some well secured cabinetry installed by a previous owner.

I'll need to have someone remove the mattress & its support board to even get a glimpse of the pump and drain valves.

sigh,
Dave

Is it possible there is access to your pump from the storage compartment?

Sorry to omit the coach data.

It is 26' 1973. It now has a large double bed across the back.

"Charles" <gcw13@sbcglobal.net> kindly sent a photo of the water pump area with the top cover removed. It was a big help.

I now see that my main challenge is siimply getting the mattress, associated bedboard, and compartment cover out of the way.

It may be practical to arrange remote valve handles to ease winterizing in the future.

Thanks for your help!

73s are a little different,
but
if you look at the first picture here:
http://www.gmcmotorhome.com/tech/tiltbed/index.html

at the pass. side rear there was a 12" X12" panel that would come out and
you could at least reach in there.,

you had to crawl under the bed to see this panel (this was on a 76 so

good luck

Thanks for the link.

My double bed mattress & board hinges similar to yours (without the board at the back to accommodate the mattress thickness), but the mattress board is one piece and like the mattress I may have to cut it to get it out.

My setup has no 12 x 12 access panel, but even with one it'd be difficult to get at the pump (it'd involve lying down in the under-bed storage area.)

I sleep alone, so am considering replacing the double mattress with a twin - that'd give me the space to access the pump from the top.

Thanks for your help everyone,
Dave

I have a bed in the back and have performed winterizing and R and R of pump thru factory access hole by laying in the storage area. It is not easy but perhaps cutting an access hole would be a short term solution.
Good Luck!
