That my husband Dean is crazy! He's still riding his Ural motorcycle to work. He's been dressing like the character Randy in the movie ChristmasStory, "he looks like a tick about to explode!" Shocked He wanted me to tell everyone that took a ride in the sidecar at DuQuion a big "THANKS "as he loves doing that and you've been added to his little black book of riders. So far he's up to 83 since getting LuLu in April. The weather people are saying we're getting a snowstorm and then lake effect snow starting Fri/Sat. so he won't be able to ride those days. Good thing it was beautiful last Monday for a last trip in SunnyB to WillowSlough for some pheasant hunting with FischenDog. No birds were taken this year but just walking in the fields with my fav guys was wonderful. We did lose our air conditioner cover on I65 tho. It was brittle. I know there is one on a MatcoTools truck at the man mall by us. Sounds like a road trip to me! We got SunnyB home, winterized and covered before alot of rain came. And now comes the snow. I can see her out of the side window waiting. I'm glad she is near so we can do those "interior winter projects" on her. So here is wishing everyone "HappyHolidays" and safe travels from us to yous.

I'm not sure! As it has been said, you have to grow old, but you don't have to grow up! Back in my college days, a bunch of us sportscar enthusiasts were always seeing who would be the first to drive their car with the top off after the New Year. The best I did was January 13th here in northern Illinois!

Sounds like he's got the right attitude, but be careful as the roads are going to get very slippery.

Luckily, my snowblower just got repaired, so I can be ready when the forecast snow hits the midwest this weekend!

I don't believe I know you or your husband but if you were at the GMC
International rally at Pueblo awhile back then I may have met you.
I agree that your husband Dean is crazy BUT while he can do it and enjoys it
then let him as long as it is safe.

We have one fellow that shows all winter for Two Wheel Tuesday on his Honda. I have never seen him drive a car. I do not know if he even owns one. He painted Heather's tank and when I went to pick it up, he was home but there were no cars to be seen anywhere.

There is a HUGE difference in the definition of "BAD
weather" between travel on two, three, or four or
more wheeled conveyances.

In the past, I have ridden frequently on two wheels
with the temperature below 20F as have my wife and
children. We had the clothing to do that in comfort.

The addition of icy pavement changes that picture
entirely.

A Ural (or any other bike) with a side hack certainly
broadens the weather conditions in which a person can
ride in safety and comfort.

Back in 1957-1959, I used to drive my '50 Ford
convertible around WHILE it was snowing back
in the western NY state snow-belt of Chautauqua
County. I quit that in 1960 'cause I chased
my girlfriend to FL where her parents moved
to get out of the NY state winters. On the
31st of this month, we will have been married
for 50 years.

Don't give up just for a little snow. A little purex on the tread will
make it stick like glue. Could tell you stories about snow in the
passes between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. One time we even tried short
little screws to make the trials type tires studded much like the ice
racers do. There's an idea. Google "ice racer" and see what you come
up with. Back in those days I didn't have a side car to hold the BMW
up. Couldn't afford with the wife and kids you know. (1968) Another
thing we did with the trials tires was to cut every third row of knobs
off to give the same effect as chains. Ruff riding
though..............

I wish I had known that he welcomed riders in the sidecar. I would have loved to had my first sidecar ride but I didn't feel that I should ask.

One winter when we lived in MN, we didn't even have a car. Nancy and I both
rode motorcycles to and from work, and for shopping. Not a big deal, you
just have to be verrrrrrry careful. Cold is only temporary.

Cherie,

When in the Army we saw no redeeming values in being cold, wet & miserable. Having said that, yeah I rode to work on the base with two wheels in the winter too. ..and yes, ice and snow hurt like the devil hitting you doing 50-60 mph. Hey, the gate security thought I was nuts when I first drove ANNIE (my GMC) to work too. Now that I'm retired (and know better), I'm moving to Florida. It doesn't snow there that much. Wink
