NO, you are not the only one. If you go to the Index of Upgrades page,
the second line on that page has a rotating arrow and it tells you to use
"control f" and the key search word.

well !!!!

you are not alone, I have added a new icon that describes the frustration
with searching my site(I use ctrl-f)

http://gmcmotorhome.info/list.html

last night I was working on "sensitized boosters".
guess what , not in the index.
so tried "booster"
found "enhanced boosters" ( which is what we called them the last time this
topic came up). I found 6 topics on 4 broken pages, so, 2 hours later (
typical every night at 3am) I fixed 2 of the 4 pages, and expanded the
enhanced booster. ( now need to add sensitized to the links , which is hard
because there are links on 4 pages (sigh)

http://gmcmotorhome.info/brakes.html#Booster

The other day, I posted about "propane leaks" which morphed into
"Manometer" which Bdub fixed by adding to one of the GMCphoto-site pictures
(thanks Bdub), but I did not get fixed on my web page ;>(

sooooo.

I am removing the search from the front page, and I will continue to try and
get all of the links fixed.

thanks and sorry
gene

Y'All DO know that Google's "Advanced Search" option allows searching a
specific URL, don't you? That's better than any other search I've found.
MAY even defeat broken links (if they're internal to the web site). :-)

Ken, Sounds like good tips but I am confused (again!)

When I go to Gene's site, found here http://users.sfo.com/~eagle/
I do not see an 'advanced search' option.

Also, what does 'searching a specific URL' mean?

Are you starting your search of Gene's site from a
different page?

Use GOOGLE's Advanced Search -- you DO use Google for your general web
searches, don't you?

If not, just enter "google.com" in the address bar of your browser. The
Google search window will appear, with a little blue "Advanced Search" at
the lower right. Click on that and fill the squares, using "
gmcmotorhome.info" as the URL to search Gene's site.

Or, just type this: "site:gmcmotorhome.info what-you-are-looking-for" in the
regular google search field, with your key words in place of
"what-you-are-looking-for".

For example, entering "site:gmcmotorhome.info sensitized booster" in the
Google search field resulted in five links. The first one is the "enhanced
booster" article Gene mentioned above. You'll still need to use Control-F to
find the key word, because Gene's pages each contain about 1000 paragraphs
of good stuff.

Gotta say this is the single most useful thing I've learned in a Long Time. Thanks so much Ken. And here I always considered myself a semi-literate techie. Duh.

Here's how I use it. I have Gene's site bookmarked (don't we all?), so I go there first. Then I have a Google search bar in the header of my Firefox browser, so I enter the keywords I'm searching for, followed by "site:" and cut and paste Gene's URL after that (no spaces, and removing the "/list.html" so it will search the whole site and not just the index page). The "site:" sets up the Google advanced search, so I don't have to actually go to the Google search page, nor scroll and click to the advanced search option, so it's very quick and click-minimized. So the google search bar looks like this, eg. if searching for separator info:
"separator site:http://gmcmotorhome.info"

Very cool. Thanks again
