also get the new tail lite lenses from Jim...They just screw on, no cutting or modification necessary..(I think the shorter screws need to be about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch longer tho).

Also from Brian's postings..

The direct links to ebay do not work well. (They rarely do.)

Try theses ebay item numbers:
Item number: 230553724611
Item number: 270668750033

Before you buy, read up on lights. Daniel Stern Lighting has some good articles:

"Thinking of converting to HID?"
<http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/Hid/conversions/conversions.html>

"Dangerous, illegal, blue headlight bulbs"
<http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/blue/bad/bad.html>

Quote:

Blue and violet are the shortest wavelength/highest frequency colors of visible light, and, as such, they scatter the most readily. This is why the sky is blue rather than any other color from the sun's white output spectrum. Blue light doesn't just scatter most readily in the sky, but also in the eye. ...
Note: this effect get worse as your eyes age.

I have also read many articles on beam patterns of cheap headlights. (like theses e-bay items.) Even though they are inexpensive, they are NOT a good value... IMHO. (Unless you do not drive at night.)

Everyone is impressed by the amount of light put out by some of these light "upgrades", but you need to look at the quality and control of that light. (Even more important when you "upgrade" to brighter lights.) You do not want to blind other drivers. You know, the other guy, guiding several tons of vehicle towards you, and attempting to have a "near miss" with you. (I do not know about you, but I would like "the other guy" to be able to see!)

I am very skeptical of inexpensive HID conversions. (If it doesn't have MATCHED reflectors and lenses.... it is inexpensive.)

That said, Jerry Work has a HID set-up that is bright, and seems to have control of that light. (Sharp cut-off.) But I haven't driven toward him, at night, on a two way road, to evaluate how tight the control he really has...

You are correct Mike, we get what we pay for. This is a regular topic on the net. I have some ebay headlights and they are a complete waste of money. The light goes everywhere but down the road. I finally bought a set from LMC and have great headlights now. They were 30 bux each but the light pattern is correct. Someone posted a good deal on here last week for Hella conversions, less than 50 bux a pair. That was a true bargain and should be quality stuff. I know there was a group buy on here a few years back. I have seen some of that "group buy". It is good those guys don't drive at night with them. I have a friend that bought a coach with some of the "group buy" headlights, already installed. He called me one night wanting to know why he had no lights, shining down the road. I know where his next set came from.
Most of us do not plan to drive at night. But, I get caught in the dark on a regular basis and am glad I have good headlights on the GMC.

Gene, (Off the list)
Thanks for the help. I tried your site before I posted.
Didn't find anything. The search section on your home page
never finds anything. Is there something wrong with it or
is it me? I have entered things I know are on your site and
it doesn't find them. Example: "Brakes" returns
"Sorry, there are no matches for brakes on this site."
Am I the only one having this problem?

Nope, I don't know how to use it either. I just try to scroll and see if I can find where Gene has it. Sometimes I send Gene a note and he is kind enough to send me the link.

Here's a way, Charles.

http://www.rollyo.com/search.html?q=brakes&site=www.gmcmotorhome.info&sid=58
66

It starts out at http://www.bdub.net/GMCLinks.html , top of page on the
right.

Enter Brakes and choose to search the GMC Motorhome roll.

When Rollyo comes up, refine your search to only gmcmotorhome.info.

The column is too small to contain the whole word so with your cursor
hovering over the link, look at the bottom of your browser to tell where it
will go. FYI, it's the first one that spells out gmcmotorhome...

Charles,
We have a complete kit that fits without hassel.
All the parts are new and easy to do.
We can supply you some of the parts and save you from wasting time.

There is a draw back to using a new style tail light assembly where
the inside is cut off.
The amount of reflective material is compromised and we have seen many
of them with moisture tat has attacked the remaining reflective
material.
All my guys are against that so called easy approach to the upgrade.
You have choices, but want to advise of another way using the full
unit with sealed sochets.

I used just the tail light lenses from ur site and that was the easiest, works well..
To me tho, the short screws supplied were about a 1/4 to 1/2 too short for real easy install. Had to push in while trying to start them into the base..

I agree with Jim for sure. It is harder to cut the lights than the body, in point of fact. Here is how I did mine:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=7703&cat=3673
All of the work was done from the outside, no need to get involved in the interior.
All you need is the taillights, some wellnuts, and the GMC tool. I used a rotozip. Solder and heatshrink makes the best wiring connection.
