When I was down at the COOP I was a regular at the local Harbor Freight
store in Orlando. It's less than a mile from Jim B's shop. I took a
pneumatic riveter back that had gone TU for Jim. The manager exchanged it
happily and then told me something interesting. She noted that I should keep
the receipt for the new riveter as the warranty started over for another 90
days!
I was surprised by this as I always thought the warranty started the day you
bought the ORIGINAL item and if it was replaced the warranty on the new item
was the date you bought the ORIGINAL item.
She re-iterated that the HF policy was that the warranty started over.

Try returning a battery to Sam's club. They do the same thing. They actually refund you for the original battery and sell you a new one with a new receipt....Strange

The local HF had only half a dozen cars in the lot when I arrived this morning at 6:50 -- no coupons were available in the store and they were adhering to the limit and coupon requirement for all purchases. I bought the multi function tool for $21.84 tax included. It had the full assortment of blades, etc, that were included previously.
Thanks to Rob Allen who mentioned this sale some weeks ago --
As for the tool, I have one, purchased at full price, limited use. Cuts pine and such well, not so great on abs drain pipe. The speed tended to melt the pipe more than cut it. Blade life indeterminate -- but the blades are far less expensive than the other brands. The blade retainer screw must be torqued guite high to prevent the blade from coming loose.

Subject: [GMCnet] thoughts on the multi-tool
I decided to try their much-hyped Multifunction Tool after reading many great
eviews on it. I was going to get the basic model (the red one) for $39.99 but
hen I saw the variable speed model (the grey one that comes with a case) was
arked down to $49.99, so I opted with that.
By the way, here’s a hint — I saw lots of guys with 20% off coupons
n line. I only had a 15% off coupon, so I was determined to get one of those
0% off ones! I noticed that the cashier just stuffed the old ones into a
lastic jar. The jar was so full of coupons, they were falling out.
I walked over to another deserted register and saw that there was a jar full of
he coupons. It was in easy reach (I doubt they care anyways) so I scored one
nd got back in line.
Anyways, this Multifunction Tool was a steal at $42.00 (with coupon, including
ax). It buzzed right through the 1/2″ plywood I was making a cutout for
n electrical outlet. I was impressed. I think I’ll end up using it
egularly for my home improvement projects and I think it will be good for a few
ears. I didn’t bother with the $10 extra for a 2-year warranty — I
on’t use my tools enough to warrant it I think.
If you want one of these, now is the time with that 20% off coupon!

No way was I going to get up in the middle of the night, drive 70 milles to save $15. I think I can order one on-line for $35. I used Ken Henderson's on a non-gmc project and it worked well. I'm probably just as well off supplying Ken with blades for the once or twice in a year when I need it. I'd probably go over there for advice, anyway.
My project to lengthen the bed will probably best be accomplished with the use of a multi tool. Not sure I'm going to do it, but it involves cutting two round holes in the closet for my size 13 feet - not really.

Stick, et al,
You can do better than $34.99 online: Pg. 104 of Dec 2011 Popular Mechanics
is a HF ad. Included is a coupon for retail, online, or catalog for the
multitool (67256) complete kit at $29.99. The number I think they'll want
(bar code) is 27816503.
Or, as you say, just use mine.

Well, here's my final word about the HF BF sale on the Multitool: I just
ordered it online. Logged into HF and found the item (67256), with a price
of $34.99. Ordered it and entered the coupon code from the flyer I picked
up in Pensacola (12146262). A $15.00 discount magically appeared. Total
cost with $8.99 S&H & $2.38 GA sales tax was $31.01. I'm satisfied with
that since we live 80 miles from the closest store.
The flyer says good through Sunday.

I just went down to the Oklahoma City Harbor Freight today.
Three different versions of the "GMC Tool" were available.
The basic 120 VAC version was on SPECIAL for $20.
There was also a 12 VDC Lithium battery version of the same
in a kit with some tools and a case on sale for $40.
They also had the 120 VAC variable speed version with a case
and some blades for $60.
Since I had the 20% off coupon, I went with the "deluxe"
version. Store is 20+ miles away from home (but just a mile
from a Harley shop!) and I simply decided that coming back
again if unsatisfied with the basic, I would spend almost
as much money for fuel as I would for the difference.
So I went with the "deluxe" that ran $52.01 with tax. I also
bought a heat gun for about half price at $8.66 including tax.
I also looked at their floor jacks. The aluminum one doesn't
seem to have adequate capacity and the 6,000 pound capacity
version seemed to me to be overkill. Maybe later. As a USAF
retiree, I have access to the automobile hobby shop at nearby
Tinker AFB.

Anybody have the coupon code for the $20.00 GMC tool? My wife threw out the flyer with all the Thanksgiving day stuff and I'm trying to order online but need the code to get discount, also I remember there was a 6" caliper set on sale too, if you got that code would be a help!
Thanks for looking!

John,
I called the local HF shop today and asked:
1) do you have any item number 67256 Multifunction Tools in stock? - YES
2) how much are they? - $34.95
3) are there any discount coupons for them? - YES
4) how much is the tool with the coupon? - $19.99
5) do you have any of the coupons at the store? - YES
6) can I come in and pickup the coupon and get it for $19.99? - YES
Pedantic bugger aren't I!
I then drove to the store and bought two of them (in case one goes TU I have
a spare). Buying two of them ain't easy! HF only allows you to use one
coupon for an item per visit. They define visit as that day. So if you want
two of them you have to come back the next day OR turn to the next guy in
line and ask him if you give him the money and coupon would he buy the item
for you. Normally they say yes and you get the second item at the coupon
price. This is in full view and earshot of the check out girl. They don't
care.
Regards,
Rob M.

Well, just call me the last of the big time spenders. I ordered myself one. Can't drive to the store for $8.99 and this way I can think of something else to borrow from Ken Henderson. Just any excuse to get out of the house!

I doubt that there is one built in the USA. I believe the expensive ones are built in Germany. The cheap ones are all built in China, regardless of whose brand name is on it.
I would also have some disagreement with your statement "GMCs were built to last." Ask the people who are constantly fixing something on theirs.
I am driving a US made 1998 minivan with 218,000+ miles on it, and the engine/drive train have never had any repairs other than maintenance done on them. Show me a GMC motorhome that has done that....

as for miles our GMC has 105,000 miles and sits a lot more then its on the
road so you can not compare that with you daily driver.
its not the miles its the age of the unit your dealing with.
go to some of the SOB sites and have a look at what they have to put with.
we still have a better R V in the GMC
if we want to get in to miles we have a 1985 El Camino with close to 350,000
miles.
no big deal.
I just drive it each week
Chinese tools are junk and we all know it.
China builds what we ask for and we want it cheap.
