I was wondering when the time comes, if anyone sold a compleate overhaul kit for the onan. from the manual overhaul looks petty basic andoculd be compleated in a a day or so once the onan was out. I ask this because I use the bugger a lot, 50+ hrs in the last month and a half, I also run a full synthetic oil with a friction modifying agent designed to decrease wear even further, but I know at some point wih all this, it will need an overhaul to bring it back to new....

I don't have any info on Onan rebuild kits, but based on their prices for other parts it may be more economical to buy an appropriate replacement generator <grin>.
What "friction modifying agent" are you using? Do you also use this "agent" in the GMC engine?

One of the best small engine parts houses is Stens http://www.stens.com/ Their after-market parts are a lot cheaper than OEM parts, and quality is as good as OEM. Most repair shops will sell you Stens parts, or you can also buy them direct.
I didn't see an "overhaul kit", but they would have all the individual parts you would need - rings, seals, gasket sets, rods, etc.
I would suggest you take it apart before you order parts to avoid surprises, such as a cylinder bored .010 oversize, or connecting rod that is under size.

Well Duce,
When this series was built, it was sold with a projected service life of 8000 hrs (a little short on a year full time). I have personally known some that did that hands down. With out lead in the fuel, you may need to lap the valves.
Rather than try to just do a slam parts rebuild, I would suggest you might consider treating it like a real engine and set aside the time to dis-assemble and inspect it and then acquire the parts you actually need. Valves will need to be re-seated, cylinders may need a hone for surface finish, Maybe the crank will need some attention.
I would bet one of the on-line small engine shops could supply all the rings, bearings, seals and gaskets. The engine in the NH and BF families were sold for quite a number of other applications.

it looks like all they have is filters and head gaskets.

Being an engine for "industrial" use, use is the best thing for an Onan.
