January is creeping up on us. As everyone knows, Quartzsite, Az. is the place to be in January. I see that the Pacific Cruisers will be drycamping again just south of Rice Ranch from the 16th - 25th. This is a great place and an easy walk to all of the activities. Beginning Jan. 23 the ham radio folks will be gathered, for a week long hamfest, just down hiway 95, about 5 miles.
For 2 weeks of water and dumping privaleges the cost is 40.00. If you dont need that you can park on some of the outer areas for free. The hamfest area is free parking.
The Big Tent will host the RV Show from the 22nd - 30th. This is a lot of fun to participate in. Sometimes there is a bargain or two but mostly they are showing their new stuff. John Ruff is normally there selling led lights, inside the tent. He is quite the carnie hauker and worth your visit just to listen to him. Very Happy
We were nervous about attending the first year as we knew nothing about the area. I would sit up late in the evenings just trying to study the google maps of the area and reading all kind of forums on the subject. When we arrived Bert and Fay took us under their wings, along with others, and within a day or two we felt like veterans. So, should this be your first time to involve yourself in these activities, do not worry, you will have a great time.
Teri and I hope that lots of GMCers will attend this year. LAst year we had a couple of days of bad weather but everyone was able to ride it out. Normally the days are warm and the nights are cool. Your lp tank will keep your refer running for a long time. We do not use the furnace but do cary a Wave 6, purchased in Quartzsite, that is plenty to keep us warm at night. We do not always need heat at night. If you have solar, great. If you don't, do not worry. The Onan will keep you going or you might hook onto one of the other GMCer's small portable generators to charge those batteries.
LAst year we had some one day visitors. That was great and I tried to hang around when they were with us. We had some great visits.
So, bottom line, come on out and enjoy some time with your friends. We travel 1800 miles out there but last year Ken Burton came a lot farther. I think he will be back this year also. Great inexpensive fun with GMC folks, unless you blow an engine. Laughing
Anyone sitting on the fence about this, just email me. I will help you over that fence. Teri and I do a lot of geocaching out there. Last year we had Doug and Irene Norton helping us.
Hope to see you there. Life is always good in Quartzsite during January.
Dan
