According to the 73-78 parts book they are all the same.. (obsolite # 1994153) This is the only one I have ever seen, but I haven`t done an early 73?
The 73 Toro does list a different switch DR418.
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Duralast-Neutral-Safety-Switch/1973-Oldsmobile-Toronado/_/N-ipdihZ9cid6?counter=0&filterByKeyWord=neutral+s afety+switch&fromString=search&itemIdentifier=116137_0_7089_
AC Delco crosses this to 2 different #s. D2219C and F2206 ??

I would advise taking yours with you and find one that matches. I would be interested in what you find.

LOL, goes to figure I just purchased it (D2220C) on autozones site. Ill see what I find. If my motorhome wasn't taking forever getting the suspension work I'd actually just check it.
Im trying to get the parts in I know it needs while its gone. Why? Well our wedding anniversary is on the 23rd and we are hoping to take it to the lake (this $30,000 toy has only 2 camping trips under its belt. The first one = horrible, the second one = much better but not great. Im hoping the 3rd will = FUN!). We opted for no gifts for our anniversary we'd just try to get the GMC up and reliable) My suspension was supposed to be done last friday and the delays are killing me. Im fairly sure my switch is malfunctioning and I dont want something dumb to leave us having problems when we are able to go.

3 is the charm they say.. When you replace the switch, I find it easer to adjust it in reverse so the back up lights work and tighten down. Make sure they work as they sometimes need the bulbs bases and sides cleaned. Of course check to see if it starts in park and neutral only. Good Luck.. If you run into issues, I`m on the black list.. just call..

I know I've said this alot in my few posts but the helpful nature of this site is refreshing and even makes me all the more want to get more involved in the gmc community. Ive put many, many hrs into learning about it as Im sure everyone around here has and have learned alot. I have alots of newbie questions still BUT Ive learned alot as well. Hopefully one day I can be a help as well!
I'm sure hoping the 3rd trip is better. Everything indicates it will be. Got to fix the safety switch (im pretty sure thats the problem) and really need to fix the drip in the carb, and then 2 water leaks) After that the list is a mile long but after those things Im pretty sure the rest is gravy.
I have a 65 amp solor panel waiting in the wings itching to get installed (its used but works can't wait to install it!)
If the switch I ordered is correct Ill let you know. If its the one for the later years I'll let someone else have it that needs theirs replaced!

How come I'm only getting Michael's side of this conversation, just as I only
get replies to Ken Henderson and Chuck Boyd to mention a few?  Any clues within
the scope of my minimal understanding?

I ran into a problem getting the correct neutral safety switch for Arch's coach when we were at DuQuoin. It turned out that there are two different versions of the switch. A 6 pin one and a 7 Pin one. They look the same and either will plug in. We discovered that they are not the same as two of the pins are jumpered together on he 7 pin one that are not jumpered together on the 6 pin one. Take the old one with you when you go to the store and carefully examine the two switches side by side to make sure you are getting the correct one.

All the applications listed are "w/o TILT WHEEL".

I suspect this is NOT the switch for our application.

If you are interested I have a part # for you. The part #'s you have listed in the GMCMI for the timing cover seal are rated for a maximum oil temperature of 250 degrees which is probably OK for most folks but if you are towing in a hot part of the country a C&R # 19923 would be a better choice as it is rated for 350 degrees oil maximum. I found this out the hard way with a new National that you had listed that couldn't take the heat of my motor's oil. I'm using the new Aluminum radiator and a 2 nd oil cooler if anyone is wondering.

Hi Roy

Actually, I picked up on your earlier report on that seal. I've got it
scheduled for presentation in the next newsletter and already entered into
the Parts Interchange. It came in after I finished up the Fall newsletter
or it'd be in there already.

That seal is listed in the manual as a Front Main Seal and also a Timing
Chain Oil Seal, so I've got it in both places. JIC

Thanks for sharing

I learned this the hard way and installed the 7 pin version. It immediatly sent 12 volts direct to the black wire (ground) and burned it up. I stripped the ground wire out of the harness and luckily it didn't burn up any other wires when it shorted and smoked! I am still going to run the 7 pin switch. I just don't hook up the ground. After tracing the schematic, the black or ground is only used for that annoying time delay buzzer for the airbags and the throttle solenoid which I removed years ago. If you replace it, be careful you get the right one or you could start a fire. That wire is NOT fused so you end up with a hell of a short if you ground the 7 terminal version of this switch as you would the 6 terminal version which is original for the 77-78. You can use either one if you clip the ground wire and that annoying buzzer will stop too. The backup lights will work fine with either the 6 or 7 plug version.
