G'day,
After 23 years it looks like Gail and I are going to make it back to the U.S. for a visit. We would appreciate any of your suggestions on what to see and do whilst we are there. As this is straying a little from GMC's P.M's maybe best.
Currently, the plan is to fly into Orlando FL around the 12th of March, pick-up a rental SOB(Wanted to buy a GMC but to hard for such a short time) and head straight to the F.M.C.A. rally in Perry GA. We will then head for Kentucky to visit some of Gail's family, saying "G'day" to Elvis on the way through.
Our daughters 19 and 20 years old will meet us in Lexington, then we will head back to Orlando for a week or so to do the Disney thing and I hope to meet Jim Bounds and check out the world famous Co-Op.From there we plan to head for Miami and if we have time, to tour the Keys.
After that the Girls will probably do their own thing, whilst Gail and I head to the G.M.C.M.I. rally in Patterson L.A.via Pensacola(To visit Gail's Aunt)
When the rally is finished we will return the rental to New Orleans and fly to Los Angeles for a couple of days shopping(RV parts)then fly back to Australia.
If this works out we will probably be back to tour other sections of the U.S.
So please forward your ideas, travel agents usually only have one agenda, their cut!
Thank you in advance
We have watched the movie RV several times so we know what camping in the U.S. is like. Very Happy

Jim Bounds Coop is only a short drive from Orlando's airport, so you may want to stop by when you arrive. He usually has quite a selection of GMCs around the lot, you'll enjoy seeing that.

If the girls are in their late teens, you may find a few days at Disney are enough unless you want to really do the Mouse thing. Universal Studios theme park and SeaWorld are two other big attractions in the Orlando area. Orlando certainly has enough attractions to spend quite a lot of time (and money!)there.

It is quite nice in the Keys, but it is a bit of a drive from Orlando, so do try to watch your driving distances and plan accordingly.

The weather in March should be quite nice down in Florida, but it can be cold up in Lexington, so plan accordingly.

Mark, it will be great having you at the convention in Louisiana. So glad you planned it like that as you will meet many friendly folks who will make you want to come back. You won't be our first Australian visitors though.
See you then,
Dan

Hey, Chuck and Cathy. If we weren't so booked up, Bob and I would come join
ya'll in Dillard. We've stopped for a feast at Dillard House several times
after being introduced to it by my sister and her husband. It's a beautiful
area and not far from Ashville--Biltmore House is worth a trip. Mark, you
will enjoy the Eastern States group and some good Southern hospitality.

All the best and Happy Thanksgiving!

Mark,

Great! We're all looking forward to meeting Y'All.

Our home is about 50 miles from Perry, GA. My aunt has a 249 acre "play
farm" just west of us where we plan to rendezvous with GMCers a few days
before the FMCA rally in March. We discussed it at our joint rally last
week and it sounds as if we'll have a good Sunshine Statesmen & Dixielanders
turnout. I'll be contacting other GMC clubs shortly to encourage them to
join us. We'll convoy from that dry camping mini-rally at the farm over to
Perry at the start of the FMCA convention. That way we'll be sure of
parking together regardless of the effectiveness of their plan to keep us
together.

This should serve as the invitation to ALL GMCers to join us. While we have
only 3 full hookups at the farm, we've got plenty of parking area. There
are a few interesting places to visit in the area, including the little town
of Plains, 9 miles away, with Jimmy Carter & related attractions. And the
National POW/MIA museum at Andersonville National Cemetery about 9 miles
also. The Robins AFB Aviation Museum is one of the best and includes the
SR71 which holds the air speed record -- 19 miles from Perry.

Good fishing in the two ponds on the farm, so bring a pole. :-)

Mark,

Check with Jim Bounds on this but the last I heard, the GMC Sunshine Statesmen were going to hold their third or forth drag race rally at the Orlando Speedway in March. ....and they really enter the GMCs to compete in quarter mile runs. There is more to Orlando than Mickey Mouse.
