Hi from sunny Florida.. I am trying to download pics, but get an internal error screen. I hate Vista.. Will do more when I can. The Blue Angels were great, Dinner at Lamberts throwed rolls was awesome. 51 coaches I believe and all but one came in under its own power. Tom Phipps coach engine seized up and came in on a hook. John Nichols has an engine at his place 30 miles up the road and has offered it to him along with helping install along with other Dixielander members. Hopefully Tom will take him up on the offer. Boy talking about some great people.. there sure is a bunch of them here. More pics to come when I get this thing to work..

Chuck,
Wish we were there, but Joan had cataract surgery and still in recovery with the three eye drops four times a day. Going to do the other eye on the The Blue Angels really do a show at their home base and I had to miss it. Enjoy your self but don't stick that leg up in the air!

Steve, 2 weeks after Mr Norm Lambert committed suicide they opened the
resturant in Foley, Al. They have 3 of the Throwed Rolls places. The other
one is over here north of Branson. I bet you stopped there, in Ozark. That
was their second one. Of course, we have the original one here. Rob and
Helen took Teri and me over there last month. We took our California friends
over a couple of weeks back. Great place to go for visiting and a little
grub on the side.

Dan,
We stopped there on a Sun morning Branson Lambert's) , around 10am.
Mistake. Over 100 people waiting in line, and even though the line was
moving at a pretty good clip, I don't deal with lines very well so we left.
That food has to be good!
Nancy is looking at homes for sale in FL and that is why I asked where that
particular Lambert's is. Thanks for the info guys.

Following up on Chuck's note:
We left home last Friday just before noon, after I finished installing the
new master cylinder -- the final chapter in a week of brake stuff I don't
even want to talk about! It's a 280 mile run down here from Americus and
the GMC seems to have used about 30 gallons of gas. Sure hope the needle's
consistent enough for that to be true; I'll settle for 9 mpg towing 3500# at
65-70 with a Cad500 any day.
This report is late because when I started preparing one a couple of days
ago I discovered that leaving the power supply for this netbook home was a
mistake. The in-dash supply I was counting on died. Should also have
brought the Alfa USB wi-fi receiver too because my reception wasn't very
good. And shouldn't have left my 'phone charger at home either. Nor is SHE
very happy that the electric razor I keep in the GMC goes
b...u...z....z......z........z, not buzz.
Tom Phipps' engine failure MAY be because of a coolant leak into the
crankcase. After running well for all but 130 miles of the distance from
DC, it began to lose power and soon quit completely and belched some coolant
beside I-65. After it cooled enough for Tom to add water, it wouldn't
crank. Chuck was past Tom when he saw him beside the road, so called Joe
Mondello, close behind, and warned him to stop. Since they were unable to
determine a cause or corrective action, Tom got a road service tow. He was
headed north toward Birmingham until we convinced him by phone to turn
around and come to the Lost Bay KOA in Lillian, AL where we were having the
rally. With numerous GMCers in the area, we figured his chances of a
reasonably priced repair were better than up there.
The engine oil is very dark, with no milkinesss, but the level looks high to
me. The condensation around the oil filler cap is suspiciously similar to
antifreeze. The crankshaft will not turn AT ALL -- not 1/10 degree -- with
me hanging from an 18" pull handle on the hub bolt. That's almost surely
indicative of frozen main bearings.
I personally bought the engine from a 72 Revcon with about 70,000 miles; it
became the Dixie Roaming Parts Group's standby engine for a couple of years
before Tom bought it. It ran good on the test stand and in Tom's coach. He
reported no loss in oil pressure not rise in water temperature ("...the
needle stayed right on 1/4, just like always...". Maybe it was hotter than
he knew.
A GMCer at the rally, with a parts coach and engine in St. Augustine (300+)
miles away, bought the coach from Tom. Considering the circumstances (wife
on the way to a week long business meeting 400 miles away in Orlando, 3 cats
to support, no good repair location, not wanting to impose on willing GMC
helpers, etc., etc.) Tom said that was the best of his options.
John Richardson and Tom will head to DC within a couple of days with Tom &
Marilyn's stuff from the GMC, including the cats. After unloading, they'll
head back south, stopping to pick up a load from John's daughter's place
enroute. All in all, a pretty satisfactory resolution to the big problems.
The rally itself was great. With more than a few air shows and museums
behind me, I skipped both the Blue Angels Homecoming air show (after all,
they only fly NAVY airplanes) on Friday and the guided tour of the NAVY air
museum on Saturday. Great eating, what with the Williamsons' cajun gumbos,
Lambert's tossed rolls and piled food (I chose a SMALL entree' -- a 1 lb
hamburger steak), fancy breakfasts, and a catered meal last night we ate
WELL.
No photos -- I hate watching the world through a view finder.

If you're a follower of Jim Stark, founder of Blackstone Labs, he believes
that the number one killer of engines can be attributed to coolant in the
oil. None survive unless it is caught very early.
His presentation at GMCWS Las Vegas sure raised some eyebrows and killed a
lot of myths I had regarding oils.
