A lot of the truck drivers here in the Northwest line the inside of
the wheel wells with indoor-outdoor carpeting or that stuff that looks
like plastic scratch pad. It really minimizes the spray that comes off
the tires. Less spray on your towd without that hoakie hula skirt that
some people attach under the rear bumper.
As for mudflaps:
Washington State Fender Laws:
All wheels of a motor vehicle shall be equipped with fenders designed
to cover the entire tire tread width that comes in contact with the
road surface. Coverage of the tire tread circumference shall be from
at least 15° in front and to at least 75° to the rear of the vertical
centerline at each wheel measured from the center of the wheel
rotation.
Mud flaps just make up the difference between what you have got and
what they want..........Terry

Inside the wheel well where the water thrown up hits the wheel well.
Tried to take a picture but just too dark. Mine is 8" wide and 3 feet
long. Held up with contact cement and half a dozen screws with fender
washers.
Up here we don't have rocks, just rain. Days of rain. Dark dismal
rain. Out on I-5 I see all those eight and a half foot wide motor
homes with the Esclade as a towd headed down to San Diego for the
winter. My brother called from Phoenix to say they are in winter mode.
74 days with 47 at night.
You know, I am only one Lottery ticket away from retiring........Terry

Ihear you about the rain Terry.
Last spring, after GMCWS Auburn, we were going to head up to the PNW. A
friend was two weeks ahead of us and emailed his adventures every day. Man,
it was depressing. Their toes were starting to grow together. 6 solid
weeks of rain with no respite. I hate that, Nancy hates that, so we took a
hard right in Redding and never thought about it again. There must be a
good time of year along that coast that doesn't put such a demand on
windshield wipers.
Sooo, just glue and screw indoor/outdoor carpeting to the inner wheel well
surfaces. Seems to me the stuff would still drip down and become the dirt
laden mist that covers everything immediately behind you.

if you use that pad you won't be jacking on center line of the coach. OK for general tire changing but not good for ride height adjustment.

I'm confused!
Are you saying that the point equally distant from the center of each of the
two holes in the of the bottom front cross member is not the centerline of
the GMC?

yes. i haven't measured it myself as my coach is at the paint shop but this issue came up in a thread on Ken H. Cad. engine install. he reminded us that the engine is off set to the right. i've always noticed that when i jack up centered on those holes that one side was always lower than the other.

As I recall, most floor jacks have "some" tilting
or "wobble" that is built into the lifting point.
If the engine weight is off center to one side of
the coach centerline, that could easily explain
the uneven lifting of the front wheels.
In any event, I am waiting for my lifting pad to
arrive sometime this week!

Rob,
Remember: When we aligned my wheels we measured the centerline and dropped
the plumb bobs, only to find that the two engine bolt access holes in the #2
crossmember are NOT centered? Had to measure from the holes at the ends of
that member.

Ken,
I remember measuring inwards from the large holes that the bolts for the
lower A-frames.
I remember that we determined that the center line in the bumper was the
centerline of the coach!
I don't remember noting that the two engine bolt hole access were not
centered! - SELECTIVE CRS!
Thanks,
Rob
