My wife was complaining about the lack of counterspace. I was thinking of a counter extension and found Emery's foldover cutting board in gmcphotos which I really like.

I'm concerned that the invisible hinges won't support much weight without some sort of brace for the cutting board when it's open over the couch. Any comments or suggestions?

Jack, If you just need cutting boards, IKEA has hardwood cutting boards for
about $10.00.
I bought 2 and used my router to cut them to the shape of the sink and put a
nylon cutting board on the bottom that fits the sink so they don't slide
around when traveling. Works neat.

I'm sure that the design is limited as to the weight it can hold, but should last with some care.
You could always install a hinged support on the side of the galley cabinets that could be swung out to further support the cutting board. I think that it would fold against the cabinet without taking much space or interfering with the couch. I would probably hinge it along the forward edge of the cabinet, and have it support the cutting board by folding it out when needed.

When I put the board on the hinges held it very well for a couple of years. But then another GMCer visited our motorhome and leaned on the board with a lot of his weight and pulled the hinges loose. So, I had to refasten it. I have cut a rectangular hole into the side of the cabinet just below the board in front of the sink and put in a sliding piece of wood similar to what is used on the dinette table. That supports it very well when the wood bar is pulled out.

I too saw Emery's cutting board extension and it fit the bill perfectly for
what Helen wanted!
However, the counter top on the Avion is particle board and there is no way
I would trust it to be strong enough screw the self supporting hinges so I
used a piano hinge and brass wood screws.

There's even less counter space in a 230. This thing gets quite a
