According to the Owner's Manual for the "Jimmy Motor Homes" 1978 Coachmen coaches, the dinette seats are "three way".

"THREE-WAY DINETTE SEAT
To change seat direction, pull out the handle; lift and rotate backrest to face in other direction. Press down on seat and push in on the handle. Test the seat to make sure it is locked in place. The front dinette seat is not designed to be occupied while traveling."

Does anyone's actually do this?

Ours makes into the bed, but you can't 'rotate the backrest' (like on a commuter train), to face the other direction. Or isn't that what they mean.

I had a 91 Flair that was set up this way. The front passenger seat doubled as the dinette seat and folded flat along with the aft dinette seat. It was designed for use while traveling as both sets of seats had seat belts. Both folded three ways although the aft seat was rather useless facing the rear.

my Royal does that. you have to do a bit of lifting as both pieces have to rock over to reset them in the new position.

On my Birch, the seats themselves DO work like this. But there isn't anywhere to put your legs with the seats reversed. With a Royale (dinette between the door and passenger seat) you could make a rear facing seat just inside the door, and a forward facing seat where a small person could put their legs around the passenger seat base. When set this way, there would be an area between the seats... maybe useful for hauling cargo?

While I can see a use for the rear facing seat just inside the door, this is a mostly useless feature.
