I'm posting this for a GMCer who had an engine lock up on his way thru Indianapolis. The engine was rebuilt in California (not by any GMC builders) and installed in eastern OHIO it made it as far as Indy about 500 miles and locked up. The coach and owner were on the way to home in Oregon when this bad thing happened. He is looking for a used engine to drop in coach to get it to his brothers in California. The original builder wants to see engine that broke and owner does not want to leave coach in Indy till all that is sorted out. Yes he talked to Blaine Merrell on last sunday when I told him to drive on over to the work rally. Blaine said that he did not have an acceptible engine to sell and at this time is not able to R&R the bad engine. Looking for an engine around Indianapolis. Also need someone who can R&R engine even Cincinnati or Louisville. The one place in my area will do some work but does not want to do the engine install.

What a sad story. If they could get the coach to Tom Hampton they would be in very good hands and not need to take that intermediate step.

Everyone's situation is different. Dan and Terry really did the right thing getting their coach to a GMC pro when their "fresh" engine gave up.

My experience with Tom was top notch. I wish them luck and hope for the best. Keep us posted if possible.

That will not work this time. I have thought about it but have not come up with any ideas.

Used cars and engines of that era are next to nonexistent around here. Anything of that vintage was crushed and sent to the local steel mills years ago.

My only solutions are:

1. Get the rebuilder to ship out another rebuilt engine.

2. If that does not work, then go to Jasper engines in Jasper, Indiana. I do not like their engines but if you are only going to run it until this one gets repaired then what's the exposure.
3. Another possibility is to pull this engine and send it back. Have them rebuild it again and return it.

While not what I would PLAN on installing...

Combined with parts from the current engine, it should work.

Larry, maybe Paul's option is a good one. If I was home, instead of Alabama, we could get a one way rental and head that way.
Maybe a few of us need to chip in and get a Patterson roller cam engine built and have it at Blaine's. Someone needs it, they can pay the amount everyone chipped in and we can go get another one.

I have a used 455 & trans that ran just fine in my parts coach, a 75 Glenbrook, in St. Johns MI. Because I removed the front end plastic to repair my Royale, the engine is easy to get to. Someone would have to remove and transport the engine, perhaps in a pickup truck bed or something. I have three little girls and a wife in a dental residency, so I don't have any time to do the job. The parts coach is at a mechanic's shop, and possibly he could do the removal (and perhaps the delivery). Alternatively, someone from the list could deliver the engine, or that fellow could rent a truck or van and drive up north. I'd like to get something reasonable for the engine, whatever that is.

I'd be willing to do delivery in my PU truck if someone else does the R&R on each end.

Then if he has someone to install on site things can work. My man George could have his staff pull the engine.

We met the fellow who needs the engine. He was at our work rally at Blaine's for most of the day and into the evening on Sunday.

We will wait to see what Larry has to say about the possibility of using your engine.

No.

It quit on Saturday. He had it towed on Saturday to some place that was not going to open until Monday. He showed up on Sunday in a rental car.

Update on engine locked up. I talked to John the guy who needed an engine. He has made arrangements to take his coach to Syracuse, IN to Ray Swartzeendruber who has a used engine and a guy up by Ray is going to do the engine swap for John. I think this will be a satisfactory solution to his problem of getting the coach home. On behalf or John thank you each and everyone for your offers of engines and support.
