Drivers side awning mount? [message #104480] |

I finally have all of the parts together to mount my drivers side Zip-Dee awning. I've already seen one install on Bob Millers coach, and found that the 17' 6" mount bracket...the part that mounts along the length of the coach...on Bob's coach it was BELOW the rain gutter. Is this typical mounting position for the drivers side awning? As I look at mine, it seems like it should be just above or laying on the gutter itself. Any observations or especially pics of the mount location would be appreciated.
Thanks

Gene,
I sent Larry photos (OFF NET) of the awning rail mounted ON the upper part
of the drip rail, you send him photos of it mounted ABOVE the drip rail and
Bob's is mounted BELOW the drip rail.
You gotta laugh, we're a big help! ;-)

Gene,
Thanks for the link .... but... the awning I will mount is the drivers side awning, the one that is only about 36" wide...just enough to cover the windows on the drivers side, so the awning is smaller in diameter when rolled up, and can conceivably be mounted differently. Any pics of a drivers side awning?

Years ago when I bought my ZipDee from the factory in IL I got a diagram with measurements and drawings specifically for mounting it to a GMC motorhome. You might contact them to see if they still have the instructions.
I probably have it somewhere in my files but I don't quite know where it is right now.
On mine the bottom of the mounting rail for the awning is approx. 2" above the top of the rain gutter (note that is from the top of the gutter casting, not from the curved bottom) . You have to move the clearance light. Be sure that you do not have the clearance light touching the mounting rail as GM wired a lot of the clearance lights incorrectly and the shell is "hot". When I did mine the light shorted against the rail and kept blowing fuses until I moved it a bit higher. I later removed the cap and wired the lights correctly.
When I first mounted the rail I had the groove for the awning at the bottom of the rail. This didn't give me much clearance for the door. So I reversed the mounting rail and put the groove at the top. This really helps to clear the door.

Emery,
Are you sure you are talking about a *drivers* side awning? Awning for the drivers side is much smaller in width so rolled up diameter is much smaller...just wondering.

Well, unless you have a door on your driver's side I think it is
pretty obvious that I must have ignored the words "driver's side".
