Les,

Jim had sent me two 80mm calipers and two Caddy calipers. But I
needed to come up with a bracket for the cable on the
torque box for the cable and I simply ran out of time. So I just
picked up a couple more 80mm calipers and used them.
That's why my front calipers are painted red and the rears are
not. I still have two red caddy calipers in the shop. Right
now I'm kinda' excited about Albert Branscombe's adaption of the
Kelsey-Hayes rear caliper. And, of course, there's
always a "honey-do" list hanging around my neck. Plus, I'm SLOW!

Gary Kosier,

Gary,

We tested all combination of caliber sizes and brake pad materials at
Jim's facility over two years ago and found that the 80 mm calibers
provide to much braking capability for the rear set of wheels and
will still slide during hard braking. Even though the braking loads
are being reacted back to the frame, the fact that the trailing arm
tires are being drug along the tires do not have as much friction
capability with the road as the mid wheels on the forward facing
suspension arms where the tires are being pushed along similar to the
front tires. It's similar to the difference in forces required to
pull a loaded wheelbarrow over a curb vs pushing it over a curb.
