Was wanting to start working on F.I. but I screwed up and showed the "Boss" Ken's new dash which is a work of art. She wants me to start on the dash this winter. I,,,,,wanted to work on the FI. The caddys intake manifold is "dry" so making a manifold is easy and I have a design in mind. But I can't do both. Has any one made their own Brake??? How big? Plans? What would you do diffrent if you made one a second time? Theres several plans on the net and it doesn't look to difficult. Thanks for the response,,,,,PL P.S.,,,,can you tell witch one is my winter project????

Paul.
Well, Good luck on the dash! Are you following KenH's design or making your own version?

As for brake -- I presume you mean metal bending brake -- I was at Northern Tool and Harbor Freight yesterday to look at what they had on hand. NT only had a 30" sheet metal brake -- $99. HF had from an 18", 16 gauge, for $30 and a rather robust model for $179 and then a brake shear type I think was over $300.
Making a simple one -- if you weld should not be too difficult. I would like a small one -- but as I only have basic hand tools for fabrication -- purchasing one may be my best option.

If you follow a plan you find on the net -- please post a link.

Paul, Well if you have to chose do the dash. F.I. stuff is changing pretty fast for the better. Are you planning a long runner manifold?

Since we are talking FI... I am aware of all the benefits, easy starting, altitude compensation, torque and power etc. I have to ask the obvious question for those coach owners out there who are running FI. What kind of mileage are you actually getting? I have considered the upgrade to FI several times but to recoup the investment over say 20,000 miles I would have to see a 3 to 4mpg improvement ( at best I average 7.5 while cursing at 60 to 65 mph with ac on and a co-op rebuild with 6,000 miles on it 3.5 gearing). I would spend the money tomorrow if that was a reality but I am guessing it will fall short. I just saw my spelling error but realized it was too funny to correct...

Thanks for the response guys. Remember it was the "Boss" who said while going up a steep very long hill in PA in 2nd at about 45 "you've got to do something about this". I said yes mamm. Cadillac 509!!!! I purchased 2x15' of 3X4 1/4" angle iron for 20 bucks and made my engine stand. I think I have enough left. 3 pieces and a hinge will work,,,,,but,,,, saw one for 500 bucks thats a roller, shear, brake combo. Dennis,Kinda like Ken's design. Mostly thinking right now. Wally, yes, long runner. Would post details but I'm afraid someone might call my idea "silly". Rob,,,thanks for the link. Saw photos on the photo site of one that was made of wood that was just beautiful but can't find them now. That was a couple years ago.,,,,PL

I really like the desk but I am planning to do something else with what is left of the Factory IP. The original stuff is cracked and brittle so I'm thinking of scrounging around a heavy truck wrecking yard for an IP that I can blend into the work the PO did.

I couldn't find Bob Gummersall's photo album, but here's a good writeup he
did elsewhere:

http://www.pacificautotronics.com/GMC/acdash.htm

<http://www.pacificautotronics.com/GMC/acdash.htm>NOTE: Acme, whom he
references for a/c stuff, has been sold to a foreign company who no longer
sells direct or under the Acme name.
