Hey folks
Since I bought Gatsbys' CRUISER, The Hot and Cold issue has been a "forever" problem. Part of this was because I was naive enough to believe the PO when he said he checked everything out and that he was a perfectionist. ( that should hold some clout, wouldn't you think?)

So in the past, in an effort to keep my dogs comfy in the bed, I had added a rear heater which amazingly enough, kept the coach at a very livable temperature. All except where the Drive and Pass sit.

Where we sit we had a luke warm air flow from the center vent and a slight breeze from the pass vent. ( The po had taken out the vent by the Driver ).

Having read books of how the ventilation system was crap and did not work, I just ASSUMED that the hot air / cold AC , or lack there of, was a part of this problem.

Yesterday, 10/21/2010, I went out to run the engine and pump up the air bags. I was getting the same non hot air flow from the vent. As it was chilly I played with the dash lever for cold/hot control, it moved, and stiff enough to make you beleive everything was connected.

I then thought I would look under the dash at the lever control.
It looked normal..... but I pulled the cable off and moved the lever handle. Whoa, I found the lever moved further or shorter than the cable did. I moved the lever to one position and when inside, the engine was running as was the fan.

I HAD HOT AIR A'Blowing. No No, I wasn't at a family party. The vent had HOT AIR BLOWING OUT. I tried moving the vent lever, no change but the cable seemed to be moving freely from the hot/cold control. Actually, the entire cable was moving to and fro from the lever control, it was busted loose.
I when out and moved the lever to the other postion at the HVAC box. Inside blowning cold ( ambiant ) air temps now. QUICKLY I MOVED THE LEVER AT THE HVAC BACK TO THE HOT POSITION. The GMC was already starting to warm up..........

Further investigation indicated that the cable is froze up, obviously has not worked since before I bought the GMC so the HVAC never had a chance to be tested on a fair level.

Fast comes to mind coming home in early Dec driving through Kentucky ( BRRRrrrrrr Ice box ) and on to Illinois... cold fingers and feet....
----

Any ideas what cable can be found to replace this one or do we have to come up with our own ideas.....

This does not mean I have a fantastic amount of air blowing through the inferior GM vent system or that the AC would work, but with the vent problem fully visable now, I have a more fair field to test in.
If your heat has never been up there and you were blaming the HVAC system like I did all this time, might take a gander at the lever, ( on the driver side of the HVAC BOX in the 74 ) and see if it can be a fixable item.
