Keep in mind that any maniac can post to that site and that many people think that just because the pump does not have a label on it that the fuel is E free. Even asking the attendant is not good enough.
The only way to absolutely know what you are getting in your gas is to check the fill sheets at the station.

But........ how do you REALLY know if there is ethanol mixed with the gasoline and what the actual percentage of ethanol REALLY is? Kind of like with the octane rating, what REALLY is going into my GMC's gas tank? Just because it says something on the pump doesn't mean it really IS!
One of my many faults is that I question too many things. I'm not from Missouri, but you still have to "show me" for me to believe most anything.
I think it was Ken H who wrote how to test for ethanol in gasoline using a small bottle and some water. I will have to search this site for the testing procedure and test some of whatever fluid is in my GMC's gas tank as I don't seem to be having the driveability issues some others are experiencing. I'm using regular gasoline of different brands, primarily Mobil (because it's the station closest to my house), purchased all over central Florida, nothing special like premium, and all we can buy here is the 'up to 10% ethanol' stuff -- at least that's what it SAYS on the pump!

Thanks, Billy,
Next they'll be blaming me for his indiscretions too! :-)
Just hope he'll accept some of mine too. As many Ken's as we've got, I
should be able to get away with all kinds of stuff.

Thanks for posting the test. I'll pass it on to my old boat racing buddies who are still using fiberglass tanks.
Using ethanol in a boat with fiberglass tanks causes the resin in the glass to turn to goo and then wreak havoc on the fuel system.
I had a boat with fiberglass tanks and had to be extremely careful because the last thing I wanted was fuel system problems. It was a 750 hp twin turbo big block chevy and a fuel issue would cause it to self destruct. I finally gave up and ran it exclusively on 100LL AV Gas so I knew what I was getting.
As far as signage goes at a gas station, I'll believe it when I see the fill sheets.

G'day,
I take the Aussie approach and fill-up with whatever gas they sell whatever
station I'm at.
"She'll be right, Mate, no worries!" ;-)
Then again I do have clean tanks, clean inlet screens, all new ethanol
compatible fuel lines, a small boost pump that turns on when I go to AUX, a
clean filter just upstream of the mechanical fuel pump, and a clean filter
in my Quadra Jet.
So the Aussie saying is "spot on" for me!

Last October I replied to this thread with:
"But........ how do you REALLY know if there is ethanol mixed with the gasoline and what the actual percentage of ethanol REALLY is? Kind of like with the octane rating, what REALLY is going into my GMC's gas tank? Just because it says something on the pump doesn't mean it really IS!"
Now almost 4 months later, last nights Orlando WFTV news had a story on how ethanol is causing problems with fuel lines, etc. (We all know the story). The interesting part was when they showed that some stations were selling gasoline that had more, sometimes substantially more, ethanol than the 10% listed on the pump.
http://www.wftv.com/news/26876113/detail.html
So my statement from last year, how do you REALLY know what you're putting in your GMC, is accurate -- you really DON'T know what the concentration of ethanol is in the gasoline you're buying. It doesn't matter what it says on the pump!

Get yourself several empty cough medicine bottles, or any small bottle, that you can see through and have measurement lines on he side. Harbor Freight has some that work well. Fill the bottles to the first division line with water. Now add gas from the pump to the 6th division line and cap the bottle. Shake the bottle for 3 seconds and watch the water settle out to the bottom. If it is at the same line than here is no alcohol. If it is at 1.5 then you are at 10%. If it is higher you can read that amount also.
We run most of our airplanes on Auto fuel. We fill up at a local non-ethanol station. We test EVERY tank of fuel we use this way. I also test unknown fuel this way when I'm on the road with my GMC. If you plan your stops appropriately you can buy pure gas on the road in most cases. The exception is the Peoples Republic of California where everything in the state must contain oxygenates (usually alcohol). I've heard that Minnesota is doing the same thing but I have not verified this.
