Howard,
It is a check valve for the air suspension system -- see the parts book section 14.002D, item number 11.

Of course you probably knew that and this was just a test...:)

And if you don't want it -- is it for sale?

Dennis

Dennis,

If it's really the OEM check valve, why in the world would you want it? If
like the OEM one that came on the Birchaven, it contained mostly a big clump
of rust -- all of its components being ordinary rust-prone steel.

Even for the sake of authenticity it's a bad option.

Howard
You are welcome.

I do not know if the check valve was part of a recall for the early (73-74) coaches but It seems to have been a common update. Duane Simmons shows it in his tech article on the GMC west site. Cinnabar also sells a kit that includes a check valve, air gauge, filter and a few other bits.

Ken,
Yes, the OEM check valves did rust and corrode very badly. Of the two I have worked on one was trash, the other responded to a lengthy bath in vinegar which cleared the corrosion. Stainless replacements are a good upgrade.
I wasn't so much interested in the valve as the GM box. One of my interests is original cartons (thirty years in the packaging business) -- some have great graphics, others just show the timelines of industry -- anyway just another form of "garage art" to go along with my old oil cans, air pressure gauges and such.
